Glad to hear I’m not the only one. |
I'm going to go out on a limb and say while pickiness is normal, I don't think it's normal for a kid to declare that they hate food/eating. If this is a new thing I wonder whether something is going on that is affecting her taste buds. Is it possible she had COVID and lost her sense of taste or smell? Or does she struggle with allergies that cause post-nasal drip, which can also affect taste and smell? I'd get her evaluated for that. |
Add butter to the things she eats. Extra calories |
This is my 7 year old. Every meal is a fight for her to eat something. We’re getting her evaluated for sensory issues now.
She has never, ever liked or enjoyed food. We went to mexico when she was 18 months old and she only ate pats of butter!! for 5 days. Not even w bread. We tried everything but she would not eat anything of substance. Now at 7 she eats steamed white rice, boiled kidney beans, “nachos” (corn chips w mozz), waffles w nutella and ice cream. Thats it. Oh and raw cabbage and carrots. We can’t eat out anywhere. When we go on vacation she’ll do french fries. DD2 is the opposite and will eat anything. Was completely eye opening to us. Dont blame yourself, when it’s extreme like this and there is outright refusal to try or taste even the smallest crumble of something new i know how hard it is. Many don’t get it. |
Maybe your DD is just not a food person. I have a friend like that. She will only eat out of need and been like this since childhood. Have you tried involving her in grocery shopping and meal prep? My kids will absolutely not touch beans or lentils…gross mom…that all I hear. |
OP here. Checked in with the pediatrician who was slightly concerned — good sign that DD had grown 2 inches taller, but fact that she has not gained weight in the last 6 months is unusual. We’re ruling out medical issues like lactose or gluten allergies, inflammation, minor constipation over the next couple weeks and then may escalate to a GI and therapist. Ped also recommended pediasure everyday for snack.

My kid did feeding therapy. It was a huge help. |
