Outdoor music at Freedom Plaza (near WH) -- super loud -- cannot even think even though 2 blocks away in office building

There is outdoor music at Freedom Plaza (near the White House) going on right now, and I work 2 blocks away. Inside my office, the music is still super loud and jarring. (If someone is standing near this music, I would worry about the impact on their hearing.)

I'm sure that the music festival organizers have a permit. But does DC just grant every permit just automatically?

Maybe many people are enjoying it, but is there any consideration for the level of noise that is being emitted? It seems like it's almost interfering with the ability of anyone else to enjoy walking in the area on a day with nice spring weather. What may be music to one person, feels like noise pollution to another person. Maybe an indoor venue would be a better option?

It's a f**king Sunday. Sorry you are at the bottom of the s**tlist and have to work on Sunday, but stop the complaining.

You have a fair point. But if you would like to persuade a person to agree with you, you would be more effective if you used calm language (with fewer cuss words).

STFU. When someone complains about something for which they have absolutely no leg to stand on and it makes them look like a complete idiot, they deserve to be cussed out.

Why has everyone from reddit come to this site now? Now we have to deal with people who
- think cursing and name calling are effective rhetorical tools that strengthen their arguments
-want to force (by banning suburbs) everyone to live in "vibrant" dense cities to end racism and foster community while at the same time complaining that "boomers" are hoarding large SFHs that young people need and want

We should use poetry slams to decide arguments. Loudest and the fastest wins.

Maybe go elsewhere if you can’t handle DCUM anymore. Sick of all the whiners.

I think your time on DCUM has come and gone. Bye bye.

Is sort of helpful because you can decide right away to ignore them because they are children with a whiny child’s tiny ideas.

It's telling that no state celebrates it. And in Washington, only the DC government observes it. Seems like an excuse for the lazy DC government workforce to be, well, more lazy.

Why would states celebrate DC's emancipation day?? April 16, 1862 marks the abolition of slavery in the District of Columbia. Over 3,000 enslaved persons were freed eight months before the Emancipation Proclamation liberated slaves in the South.

That’s when enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free. It really has nothing to do with DC.

So, you are telling me that the District government shuts down to celebrate a Texan holiday?

Juneteenth became a national holiday under President Biden after Trump made it a 2020 campaign pledge (to get the African American vote). DC Emancipation Day did not get elevated to federal holiday status.

So, DC needs two days to celebrate this?

Juneteenth is a weird holiday to commemorate the day some folks in Texas finally learned of their emancipation well after they were already legally emancipated. I’m not sure how or why it was picked, because it’s not even broadly relevant to the Black experience.

Someone can correct me or elaborate, but Juneteenth was specifically chosen since Trump turned the holiday into a campaign slogan to get the African American vote. Then when Biden was elected he followed up and made it a federal holiday. I suppose Trump could’ve picked DC Emancipation Day instead. Then that very well could have been the federal holiday and not Juneteenth.

They came because of the bike threads. There's a few people that encourage people to post here as a form of lobbying.
