I really hate how small the menus are on my phone and how there are tabs. I guess I just like the big menu with pictures.
Drinks with a QR code are fine. I like how they all have the actual prices on them. |
| My mom (who is typically very kind and mild mannered) had a fit in a restaurant when they gave her a QR code. She said if they didn't give her a menu she was leaving. The waiter argued for a bit, but then a menu did appear. My mom's eyesight isn't terrible, but iphones are too small for her to read. At home she exclusively uses her ipad and has the font larger. Her texts use a larger font too. She doesn't bring her reading glasses everywhere to read QR menu 12pt font. |
Same... I can't imagine throwing a fit over not having a paper menu. The only people I know IRL who get mad about this are anti-vaxxers/covid deniers. Basically people who are still "rebelling" against covid lol. I know many small restaurants who stopped using paper menus as they are costly to update and maintain, but the QR code menu can be updated each morning easily. |

I am capable of using either. That said, I generally much prefer a paper menu and will ask if one is readily available. I do not leave if it is not).
While I do see a PP point made previously when you can order directly from your phone via the QR menu - I can see liking that but often that scenario is not what I encounter. I also can appreciate that at least in theory a QR menu can be more accurate to pricing and what options are available. I rarely find they are actually updated often though (i.e. what is the special or what is sold out or otherwise unavailable). I am often dining out with my family. My kids are old enough to read a menu and order for themselves, but not old enough to have phones and/or be allowed to bring them to dinner. QR means we have to share whichever parent brought a phone and has sufficient power. Add in how many tabs or sections there are, how long each takes to load for each family member, etc. and this takes FOREVER for a family of 4. It is also not enjoyable time, yet we are dining out to (try to) have an enjoyable meal. I have to say I find it interesting how many people comment on the filthiness of paper menus. I do agree they are not always cleaned often and can be quite dirty (though not always true). But most phones are also as filthy or worse unless you’re actually cleaning them often. |

Paper menu, even if its as simple as a piece of paper. Doesn't need to be fancy. But if they don't have one, I'm fine with a QR code.
What I hate are restaurants that have "table service" where I have to read the menu, enter my order and pay my bill using the app. And I'm supposed to tip the servers for what??? |
| I hate the QR code. Its a terrible practice for cybersecurity reasons, a crappy way to have to look at the menu, and really inconvenient for kids or those who aren't good with smart phones. |

I think that if you are not going to eat at a restaurant you otherwise wanted visit - much less get up and leave after you got there - because they don't have a physical menu: - you are way too rigid and uptight; - you have a very strange set of priorities; - I am sure these tendencies of yours seep into other aspects of your life; and - you are not someone I would want to be friends with. |

| We are also no phones out at dinner. But the QR scanning doesn't bother me. There is no difference in our interaction if we are looking at menus on our phones or a physical one. I'll eat where I want and deal with whatever menu the place has. |
| We started leaving the phone in our car at dinner or sometimes even at home. We like not being contacted. So yes, if they have no menu we are leaving. |

It is really not hard to understand why people do not like them. Many of us are not glued to our phones. I do not always have it on me, or it’s low or out of battery. Many people have trouble reading a lot on a phone. I find the menus hard to navigate. If they want to not have paper menus fine - but then have an ipad or /kiosk with a larger screen available. It also just takes away from the experience. If I am in Panera - sure -I will use a kiosk. But if I am going to a place where I am sitting down and being waited on, I do not want to have to work to order my meal - especially when the waiter or waitress will still expect a tip. It is fine if you like it, but it is odd that you think not liking QR codes has anything to do with anti-vaxers. |
