School looking at parent’s LinkedIn?

Anonymous
Whatever other interpretation one might’ve put on their intentions, it is definitely a sign that they are interested in your DC. As someone else pointed out, they don’t have much time to review each application. Thus shows that either he or she has passed the first hurdle and is now being looked at more carefully, or that someone in the admissions office is intrigued.

It didn’t say who. Just that someone from X College viewed your profile.

And yet it seems to happen fairly often…

Guys. Look at the common app.

It doesn’t ask for parents professional title. Just what your industry is.

Example if parent is the CEO of a company it does not ask to list title. Just that parent is a “business executive” from drop-down.

Yes this is a real life example.

Yep, we've noticed this happening a few times over the years - an admission officer at a college checking out DH's or my Linkedin.
We've had 4 kids apply to college.

Yeah, I couldn’t have DC indicate that I’m a partner at a large law firm (just that I’m a lawyer)….

I had a hit on my Academia page from the town where my dc ED 2 years ago. I guess it is a thing.

One of those authors on applying to college (Hernandez?) tells applicants to downplay parents jobs so as to seem less privileged. You are supposed to say that your mother “works at a hospital” so admissions will assume she is an orderly rather than a neurosurgeon. If people actually do that I could see someone from admissions checking to see what the actual deal is,

This is fascinating!

We got rid of our LinkedIn accounts - uh-oh

I agree it’s fascinating.

To those who have had colleges/AOs check out their profiles: would you be willing to share if you are full-pay? I’d guess based on the above that the schools are trying to identify potential development prospects, but that explanation wouldn’t make as much sense if they’re doing it to FA applicants too.

Okay, but now I’m nervous about all the times I skulked around Linked In checking out ex-boyfriends, their spouses, etc.

Lol. Yup.... they saw every single time you looked.....if they're paying attention to their account notifications.
