Who knew that Mary Lou Retton became a right wing nut job?

Republicans want people to crowdsource funding for medical care or file medical bankruptcy. She is living what she believes in. I didn’t care about her in the 80s and don’t care now. I’m wildly indifferent to this situation.

Do you not think that her not completing HS had something to do with her gymnastics career?
Might she have gotten her GED?
Why, yes, she did.
And, I'll say it again and again. Attending college does not magically grant someone "intelligence." Some of the smartest, most knowledgeable people I know didn't go to 1 year of college.

"I guess I've kept very busy," she said recently. "I can't believe it's an Olympic year again. My mother always said, 'You'll go to the Olympics, then you'll go home and finish high school at Fairmont High.' That's always what I planned to do."

But that is not quite what happened.

Retton did get her high school diploma. But she had to wedge her studies between dozens of speeches at clinics and banquets and appearances in commercials for cereal and batteries and shampoo.

She’s clearly not all that smart if she chose to remain uninsured.

You have no idea as to why she is uninsured, of even if she is totally uninsured.

So her family’s just grifting? How typical.

DP. How about you give us one valid reason a person with $2m in assets would choose not to get health insurance? Besides their politics, obviously.

NP. Intelligence and a good education are not the same thing. If she hasn't ever expanded her worldview beyond her small gymnast circle, then yes, I judge.

Speaking of small worldviews...your post reflects yours.

How do you know she has $2M. Just because some website says so? Those websites are never accurate.

Doesn’t she live in a 9000-sq ft custom-built mansion?

And, how do you know she hasn't? Do you personally know her?
Or, are you just offended that she does not buy into all the nonsense pushed by liberals?

What nonsense? She's passing the hat to pay for her healthcare. Where's the bootstraps in that, bucko? And good one about that "very rare form of pneumonia". We do know what that means.

What exactly does it mean? You seem to be omniscient.

DP, but it most likely means she has COVID and it turned serious because she didn't get vaccinated.

Some of us have common sense. We get our shots and pay for medical insurance, so we get to spend Saturdays watching college football with our friends and families instead of struggling for life on a ventilator.

The kids were probably asked how her hospital bills would be covered and since mom probably didn't have a ton in savings, were probably told she'd have top sell the house. They obviously don't want to do that, hence the appeal for donations.

So they have to grift the public rather than having saved and invested over the course of a lifetime.

I didn’t know she advocated against the protection of the gymnasts until this week. Wtf was her reasoning there? She was a Karolyi girl-I wonder if some of that was defending them?

Anyway, I do hope she gets well. Not having health insurance if you have the means is obviously an incredibly poor choice.

Shannon Miller and Jaime Sale are also RWNJs, just FYI. Possibly Kerri Strug as well

Cite a source that she has Covid.
People actually get pneumonia without having Covid.
And, who exactly are you to judge why she did not get vaccinated? (I don't know that to be fact, BTW) There are many for whom the vaccination is more dangerous than actually getting Covid.
