Reading smut has saved my marriage

Pretend we're perfect strangers and that we never met
My, you remind me of a man I used to sleep with
That's a face I'd never forget
And you can be Henry Miller and I'll be Anais Nin
Except this time, it'll be even better
We'll stay together in the end
Come on, darlin', let's go back to bed

I'm sad to see so many people complain about poor writing - that has not been my experience at all, except maybe with the self-published stuff on Kindle Unlimited, and I wonder how much romance these PPs have actually read. The traditionally published authors are professional writers with professional editors. A weird number of them are former lawyers.

Try: Grace Burrowes, Courtney Milan, Tessa Dare, Kate Canterbary, Alisha Rai, Helen Hoang, Alyssa Cole, or Sarah MacLean.

This always amuses me.

I love Ali Hazlewood’s books. So cheesy/formulaic and not for everyone- but the sex scenes really work for me. She really gets into the enemies to lovers theme.

+1 I love her books, even if they are repetitive of each other.

I read Red, White, and Royal Blue recently after watching the movie on Prime. It’s an adorable queer romance with plenty of smut. Movie was good, too.

Plenty of professional writers with professional editors have poor writing. Most books are trash.

Same! I lean more towards the steamy romance side than straight up erotica but I love Abby Jimenez books. Some of my favorites.

Also Elana Armas (writing not quite as good but love the characters) and the hating game by Sally Thorne. Super hot and my favorite trope is boy has been longing for girl for ages but she’s unaware.

I love romance novels and they have definitely made me more excited for intimacy with my husband so he benefits for sure.

Not a specific recommendation but this website:

Changed my relationship with the whole romance genre. There’s a lot of really great, intelligent and creative writing in this category.

Sex was definitely a chore 90% of the time and honestly something I NEVER thought about. Recently started reading sexy romance novels and THINGS HAVE CHANGED. Sex is something I think about, look forward to and actively participate in on a much more frequent basis. DH and I are getting along better too in our day-to-day interaction.

The books can be so cheesy (but not all! Some are great stories with fantastic female leads) but I’m hooked. Anyone else? I guess this is why those Fabio books were always at the grocery store growing up 😂

Thank you for starting this conversation, I came here looking for just this. The more erotic, the better. I've been enjoying Sylvia Day's Crossfire series.

I have gotten a lot of use out of The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty and Beauty’s Punishment both by Anne Rice. It’s erotica not romance though. I don’t think they would appeal to everyone but I sure like them 😁

Any suggestions that are NOT like vampire/goth?

Any guys in this thread? If so, what do you like to read?

I often try to find stuff on literotica but it's either too weird or too much fluff and not enough sex for me.
