Is that why no one has been reimbursed yet? |
People in this thread have been reimbursed. My assumption is that it’s just the wheels of bureaucracy moving slowly. Government payouts usually take a long time, I wouldn’t ascribe it to anything nefarious on FCPS part. My guess is you’re just seeing it move slowly because there is a lot on the line, a lot if applicants and it’s basically uncharted territory. The county has never had to do something like this before so there isn’t existing systems or streamlined protocol in place. |
Has anyone else not been reimbursed yet? We were approved last spring but are still waiting. |
Also approved last Spring. We are still waiting. They’ve not requested a W-4 so I’m concerned. Ours was all for tutoring. |
Same here… for tutoring. Emails to the school system POC have gone unanswered. Just a quick reply that “we’re working on it” would be ok.
At least now I know we’re not alone. |
I still have not been reimbursed and submitted a W-4 over the summer. Now I received an email from Terri Edmunds-Heard (mass email) that they were sorry and they are working on putting mechanisms in place to work out these claims. I'm frustrated because there is no way to email Terri and my last POC isn't answering any emails. It appears any and all communication for this reimbursement go to the black hole. I'm frustrated because all we want is an idea of where things stand and how long it may take. Does anyone have any good POCs or how to contact someone? My concern is that we won't see anything from this reimbursement at all. |
Do you need Terri’s email? She is the exec assistant to Michelle Reid and I have both their emails (I got it from another mom)- she doesn’t respond but the email from yesterday made me think she is at least getting the emails. |
I didn't receive this mass email and our claims were submitted last spring. Does anyone have contact information? |
I honestly feel like it turned out to be a lot more expense than they anticipated when they settled, and they are delaying the reimbursements while trying to figure out a legal strategy to reopen the settlement or somehow be allowed to offer services in lieu of compensation. |
I feel the same. The people cutting the checks are NOT supposed to be doing anything other than the administrative work of cutting checks. The discussion and decisions were made by the IEP team on the reimbursements. So what's the hold up? It sounds like they are going through each request with a fine tooth comb trying to nickel and dime parents who didn't think three years ago to put the correct phrase into Venmo. |
I'm baffled by this whole process. My child missed three years of school b/c FCPS could not find a seat at a special ed center. He literally did not attend school or receive any special ed services at all for 3 years.
As part of the OCR paperwork, they agreed to pay for private speech therapy from August 2022 through August 2024 . Should I be concerned that they are going to run out of funds? |
How many kids don't attend school every year because there aren't any open seats or schools for them to attend? That's insane. |
Could you elaborate on this part and why there were no other options? Thanks |
No reimbursement yet. They are vague on the hold-up. Are they re-checking things? |
His mental health needs were too severe for CSS program, so he was designated for a special ed school, but his packet was rejected from the few schools that were deemed appropriate. So for about a year, he was completely out of school while MAS sent his packet around and waited to hear back. Then he spent time inpatient for mental health. Then the IEP team designated him for a residential school placement. Almost another year passed before it was determined that there were no residential schools that would accept him (they assured me that pre-covid, they would have been able to find a spot for him). Then he was moved back to local private placement and put on temporary virtual home instruction for one hour per day for a high school grade, which everyone on the IEP team agreed was not appropriate, but there were no other options. (I should note that at some point during this time, FCPS stopped placing kids at private special ed schools like phillips that did seclusion, which right or wrong, reduced the number of available seats). 3+ years after he was last enrolled in school, a special ed placement finally agreed to enroll him. FWIW, during our many, many meetings with FCPS, at one point I was told once there were over 100 FCPS students who were also out of school because they didn't have anywhere that would accept them. |
