This is key. You can't just expect the common varietals in California to do well in this climate/region.

A lot of central Virginia wineries also do a great Petit Verdot.

To siderail a bit, when I'm down in Charlottesville I usually visit Blue Mountain Brewery as well. I need a break from wine and beer with a nice view isn't bad.

I've come to never expect greatness from a Cabernet Franc, and Virginia's is no exception.
