He may get his bonus as leave hours instead of money. I can't tell you if he is slacking or not, but he could be working 40 hours and performing as expected and still be able to do the things he does with his child. One of the advantages of being a Fed is the work life balance.

On our dime.

Oh hush. She said he is doing his 40 per week. So you’re getting your dime’s worth. I’m a fed. Our managers can’t give meaningful bonuses and there is a ton of policy and reg about pay and promotions. So the ONE thing they can do that adds value is approve our leave requests. Request for leave that we have earned. So most managers are just fine with feds that have earned leave taking the leave. They are also ok with flexible schedules. Our pay is crap. A 15 step 5 or 6 is already getting the statutory maximum— so no pay increases except cost of living. So he’s going to take that leave because it’s the main benefit of government theses days.

I am well aware of the pay scale. I stand by my statement.

You are a troll.

I've been job hunting and there are lots of remote and hybrid positions in private industry. It's not only Feds who WFH. I do not care who works from home.

I work from home. Sometimes for a change of scenery I go out to lunch and lots of people are clearly on lunch break from the office. They are there when I arrive and while I eat and are still chatting away when I leave. So let’s not pretend working in the office is a full day. Let’s just not.

I mean, I've lost track of how many times per year he has been off traveling, plus breaks with the kids winter break, spring break, summer vacations, being chaperone for their field trips, able to pick them up early after school, attend their sports practices at times most people are working. This is has been ongoing for years. How much leave to federal employees get or is he milking the system? It would be impossible that this is carryover year after year and he is not the type to be up on his computer late into the night. I am working in the wrong sector.

One) MYOB.
Two) Feds accrue the following: 4 hours per pay period of sick leave + 4 hours per pay period (years 1-3)/6 hours per pay period (years 4-15) except for 10 hour last pay period/8 hours per pay period(years 15+)
Three) Time Off awards are provided in some (most?) agencies

There is only so much rollover they can carry. So once you get to 200 hours in January of one year you could take off 208 hours per year and still have 200 remaining.

You can also have a flex schedule. You can also work compact schedule so 4 10s with one day off every week or 9s where you get every other Friday off.

I don't work for the fed but am able to arrange to be OOO every day from 2-3 for pickup. If I start at 6 its basically the end of day at 2. So I log back in from 3-4 and make sure I finish through the end of day. I could also not log back in on M and W because of sports and then logging back in 3-4 T/Th/Fr covers the "missed" time.

Seriously! This was my first thought as well. That’s great OP. You’re so lucky. Especially to have coverage for all breaks!

That’s like saying if his dad is stealing money and giving it to the kid, it’s a good thing.

No, it’s not, OP, but we get it - you hate your ex. Sounds like a you problem, not a leave problem. Feds earn a lot of leave and there are a lot of AWS situations. You obvi have no idea what your ex’s work schedule is but are happy to jump to the conclusion that he is cheating the system. Probably because he cheated on you.

My DH gets 5 weeks of vacation every year, has 240 carryover hours and all the usual Fed holidays. Why haven’t you tried asking your ex?

Not the same that all. Federal employees get a lot of vacation time.

No, OP mentioned he could be “milking the system.”

A jealous bitter ex can always be relied on for a truthful assessment.

My husband and I are both feds who are working from home and we work all day long.

Because he has a bad work ethic and cheating on his job is indicative of poor morals and poor character. Not something one wants their children to learn from and emulate.

Yet OP had a child with him.
