Teen wants a nose job

my 74 year old mother got one at 13. she was so thankful that my grandparents supported her. i saw pre-nose job pictures of her, and wow. massive difference and gave my mom a huge boost of self confidence.

I got one at 23 as soon as I could afford it and it was life changing for me, too. I wish my parents let me get one and paid for it the summer before college, which I think is perfect timing. It's a really really big deal and has such a negative affect on confidence if you have a huge nose, and it's easy enough to fix.

I got one in my mid-twenties and it was life changing. I didn’t realize how many things, such as how I wore my hair, were ways of trying to conceal my nose. It was too large for my face and had a prominent hump, and I recall it bothering me as young as 8 years old. I truly feel like I look like how I was meant to look now. I no longer felt invisible or like this nasty thing was taking up half of my face.

I did not find the surgery or recovery process painful, even though you look pretty rough after. I also like that it’s a one and done kind of surgery.

Amusingly, my DH and I were often mistaken as Israeli before my nose job (he is Middle Eastern) — I am talking a couple times a year someone would just start talking to us in Hebrew only for us to smile back until they could tell we had no clue what was going on. Now people tend to default to speaking to me in Russian.

very interesting -- seems like this is a surgery no one regrets. (i got one and have zero regrets). I agree that it's also a "one and done" thing -- mine was more than 20 years ago and I never think about it, nor do I have any scar tissue or any consequences.

Also, the doctor went in an fixed a deviated septum at the same time and cured my sleep apnea. so I woke up the next day better looking, and able to sleep more deeply, without snoring ever again. Truly life changing.

I had a nice face, an out of proportion nose that was making me invisible, and after the nose job I had people stop me on the street to tell me I was the most beautiful person they had ever seen! I'm sure my life trajectory is completely different than it otherwise would have been. I had a really excellent surgeon who gave me a natural looking medium sized nose. Lots to share, good and bad, lots of confusion, but I would 💯 do it again. I wish I had done it at 16.

I'm sorry... what

I know it sounds like a classic "internet boast" but this is true! Within a couple years of the surgery, 4 different people said this to me or to my friends about me (my french TA, a customer at my coffee shop, a writing teacher, a barista at another cafe), a modeling agent stopped me on the street, all in addition to vastly increased attention from men. believe me, that was not my experience previous to the surgery, when I was a very nerdy adolescent who was almost invisble to men (that's a whole nother post -- it's very confusing and illuminating how differently the world treats you.). Somehow, the surgeon managed to just balance out my features.

I'm 42 now and those things dont happen anymore... I'm your typical DC middle aged mom and have to do what every does to stay nice looking (exercise, retinol, etc etc). I have a nice husband who actually loves me for more than my looks (not the case with men I chose in my 20s).

many of the famous women who we think of as being stunning have had slight (or not so slight) nose jobs -- Angelina Jolie, Giselle Bundchen, etc. Jennifer Aniston. Google it. This surgery is one of the most impactful to the face.

Jewish?

Yes why?

I think PP asked because it is an "owning your ethnicity", or at least not rejecting it, thing.

OP, what background is your daughter? Iranians have the highest number of nose jobs. You can search it, and get some good ideas.

I am 40, had one 5 years ago, and wish I had done it earlier. I don't know the mechanics of when surgeons will actually do it, but if I could go back in time I wish I would have gotten one when I graduated college before I started working etc. So yes I would consider it for sure.

Nose jobs and breast reductions are frequently the least-regretted plastic surgeries over the years; these things make real impacts to quality of life. On the other hand, breast implants and lipo are among the most-regretted - make of that what you will.

My dd had one at age 20. Her nose seemed fine to me but it was a little crooked, and she was sensitive about it. She did the work of consulting with surgeons and getting estimates, etc. We helped her pay for it but she also paid for a portion of it herself. No regrets.

agreed--lipo destroys your lymph canals and you have bloating for the rest of your life-unless you have this special lymph canal saving lipo--though not sure it works
