Why are the Sumo oranges horrible this year?

Still good at the Whole Foods in falls church. I get 4 weekly.

I've gotten one bad bag at TJ this year but many more great ones that everyone fights over.

Got some good ones yesterday at TJ in NoMa. They don't look as pretty as they sometimes do in the outside, but great inside.

Like all good things, greed has taken over and output is more important than quality so the industry has screwed the pooch just like they did with every other citrus product.

The last two bags I bought turned out to be moldy, so I’m considering the season over, sadly.

I've been getting mine at Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Smith Markets and Sams Club in a 6 pack.
They have all been remarkably good and worth the price. The Sams Club purchase was 6 for approx. $7.79 an unbelievable price!!!
My last 2 purchases were 6 packs at Sam's Club in Salt Lake City. I hope to refrigerate a 6 pack and pray it makes it for 3 weeks as I will be gone but also know the season is ending soon and will be anxious to get home to have my final taste of the Sumo's until next season if they hold up.
