Same. I live near DTSS but we go to a Columbia Mall or Bethesda.

Guy was just murdered in bethesda garage too. Why do you feel that Bethesda is safer?

You mean the drug dealer murdered in the stairwell by the Target, or some other murder?

Because Bethesda has fewer of....THOSE people.

This is really the thing.

DCUM sees fewer of THOSE people in Bethesda than Silver Spring, ergo SS must be safer.

Lol

Parts of PG are way safer than parts of MoCo, sadly.

MoCo now has the same problem as PG. You have Silver Spring and Wheaton which are higher crime areas while the rest of MoCo is pretty safe suburbia.

PG has a high crime rate in the small portion of the county that is inside the beltway and south of US-50. The rest of the county north of US-50 and outside the beltway has comparable crime rates to the other beltway counties.

Yes, but PG isn’t trying to reduce its police force by 50% in higher-crime areas. That’s exclusively a Montgomery County plan.

Did I miss something? When was someone recently murdered in a Bethesda garage?

There really should be plenty of cameras there. Such an easy first step. The fact that this was not captured on camera is bad.

Real estate agents are really committed to selling higher priced homes in the West and upper county. Fearmongering about the schools no longer works to drive people away from downtown SS, so they have to try the claim that it’s high noon at the OK corral just to pickup your WF order.

I lived in downtown Silver Spring for 10 years (2000 to 2010). Sometimes I had to work late and I was never comfortable coming out of the metro station at 10pm and walking to my apartment. Often my husband would come get me.

Sad that it hasn't changed.

Sadly it hasn't. They arrested a man for attempted rape at the Silver Spring metro in July for example:

But if you take out all the violent crime, Silver Spring is a very safe place!

It's a shame and I feel sorry for the businesses that will suffer when people don't feel safe going there anymore.

Talk to the county council and Elrich. They are driving the decisions and they are why MCPD isn’t patrolling as much. Their task force wants a 50% reduction of police in DTSS.

What we are seeing are the consequences of these decisions.

Everyone who lives in DTSS or cares about it should go protest.

Because that was a drug deal gone bad - it was not random like this one in Silver Spring. Also why was he in the staircase anyway? I never take them in parking garages since the other murder near Target.

Not so recently…it was almost exactly a year ago. The 18-year-old murderer was just sentenced to 40 years in jail.

You'll be branded a racist for doing so. After all, the current policing has resulted in fewer arrests of POC, and more policing would result in more such arrests (because the demographics of SS mean most people are POC anyway).

At 3 a.m. People, you have to watch yourself at night!

No one should be comfortable walking out of metro at 10 PM anywhere in the DMV.

The 50% reduction in Police in DTSS is not true. The PP is throwing it around but it’s not true. Patrols have increased in that area.
