They rely heavily on ED and defer EA kids and pressure them to switch to ED2. I don’t think it is an easy safety school. |
Did your DC end up attending there? If so, can you tel me a little about the experience? Trying to decide if we keep on DD’s list. |
| If low income, why not use your affordable state schools as a safety? They generally let kids in by the numbers so are more of a sure bet. Many also tend to give academic merit aid to top students. |
No, my DC picked a higher ranked school (top40). The allure of CofC was the great honors college and it is right in the middle of the city. Visited a high school friend for the weekend and loved it. I think the honors college is a great safety for a higher stats kid. |
| Dickinson? |
10-20 years ago maybe. |
| University of Vermont for environmental science |
| What state does kid live in? |
| McDaniel, Pitt, Temple, Duquesne University, Clark University, Rowan University, Hofstra, Chatham University, Gettysburg College |
| Tulane Northeastern. Obvious. |
Idk, my kid got the $22K merit on EA and doesn't sound as impressive as OP's kid. But he is a boy and we did visit the campus (demonstrated interest). Had very high test scores and hard classes but GPA was just at 50th for Miami. Honestly, we were a bit surprised to be accepted EA and expecting to be asked to ED2. |
Tulane and Miami are still willing to throw money at high stats kids to get them to attend, might be worthwhile. |
Obvious you don't understand admissions. The prevalence of ED takes certain schools out of the safety category, Tulane being the primary example. |
I dare not say more. Criticism of CTCL schools is strictly monitored on DCUM and immediately deleted. |
| MY kid was offered significant merit aid at Wooster and Denison in Ohio, if your kid is interested in a small school. U of South Carolina also offered significant "aid" in the form of charging my kid only the state tuition rate. |
