Went to Odessa Shannon for 6th grade registration night and it was packed. And it was VERY diverse, which I was quite surprised by given that 60% of the current student population is hispanic. Way more white kids there than I expected.
Leadership seems good, teachers seem smart, and the building is FANTASTIC. So not sure why the school still gets a bad rep. Hopefully Dr. Booms can clean things up. The previous leadership when the school was Lee was asleep at the wheel, but Dr. Booms seems capable and smart. |
Current OSMS parent and PP is right. Dr. Booms seems to be doing a good job and the APs are strong (I've interacted more with Mr. Levine, but I hear good things about both). They are doing principal interviews soon, so it will be interesting to see who gets the job.
There are a lot of new teachers this year (my kid has 3 or 4 who are new to teaching or new to OSMS) and I hope they stay for a while so there is some consistency. The building is really nice. It makes the previous building look even worse in retrospect. For the most part we're happy with the school. My kid is reasonably bright and has found a cohort of other bright kids who were in CES or advanced reading groups in elementary school. |
I went to this school, and then to RMIB. It was fine. No issues. |
Bump this up, any recent experience with the 2e program there? |
