That would be an insult from Biden and a Dem Congress.

I don't disagree! But in the last 30 years, how many times have we gotten a raise at 3% or greater? Maybe once or twice per administration. I just don't think people should get worked up about this. it kinda is what it is.

Bush was awesome for federal pay, i believe the average raise was around 3.1% for his 8 years without locality pay.

yeah, but Americans didn't outright hate the federal government back then. Sure, there have always been anti-government groups and there always will be. but the national sentiment during much of the Bush years was not very anti federal government. That sentiment has grown sooooooooooo much since that time. It is not politically popular to take care of feds these days. We are pawns. We shouldn't be. but what should be and what is very different.

When are they going to raise the cap on GS 15/10 pay? I'm 35 and fully capped. So is DH is 38. Where's the motivation for us to go above and beyond for the next 20+ years until we're eligible for retirement? As inflation and COL in DC continues to rise, we will get less and less for our money. Soon enough 14s will make the same as 15s for less responsibility.

Ugh- people like you are the reason that feds get such a bad rap.

Most are. You may not, but most are. Look for a better job?

Lol. No. “Most” are not, bubble boy.

Proposed GS pay raise for 2023 is 4.6 percent, OMB sent this to agencies on Tuesday.

Where is the evidence of this? I work in the private sector and did not get an "inflation raise." I haven't heard of a single person that I know who has.

This is pretty good and should shut folks up. If this pans out, it will be the largest raise since 2006 or 2007 under Bush.

Most are. Maybe you don't have the right skills.

NP here. You don't think someone at the top of the pay scale deserves a decent raise, considering inflation? The GS-15 pay is not at all comparable to similar jobs in the private sector.

I’m a 15/4 and feel the same way. There may be a point sooner rather than later where it makes a lot of sense for me to jump to private sector. I’m just not that familiar with the impact to work/life balance.

No, but in my experience most of the people who received their 15s by ~30 (which is likely the case if OP is maxed out by 36) got their promotions by politicking/kissing up to seniors rather than merit and are generally looked down on. Complaining about being maxed out at an HHI of > 350,000 in your 30s is just a bad look. If salary is a driving factor and you have 20+ years until retirement then find a job in the private sector.

Most likely you will end up working much longer hours with less job security….hence why many people stay in government jobs

I’ve heard the IC is having trouble keeping younger folks too. It’s too expensive to live here within decent commute range and they can’t offer work from home.
