My gym definitely has more men in the free weight area, but there are also a good amount of women. The makeup can vary by gym though. I have never felt intimidated, but I have also been lifting for awhile. I think having a program is really important. that way you aren't walking around randomly picking up random weights and doing a few bicep curls.

It doesn't take long if you pay attention and really focus on what you are doing. Some lifts are harder than others. For example, the deadlift definitely takes longer to learn and even then there are always little things you can tweak. There are video when people really break down lifts and give great cue to think of as you do the lift. |
