Anyone not apply because they knew their kid would never want leave their home school? And if so, did you regret it?

I did not apply with my older kids and do not regret it for two of them. I do wonder if my child who doesn't like school very much would have liked the hgc program better than regular school, had he gotten in. In general, though I don't regret it because my kids had good experiences in school and are in the same classes with the kids who went to the hgc now.

I think it's a mistake not to apply for that reason. We applied and didn't tell our child. When it came time to take the test he reported that he didn't want to go/leave his school. When he got though (which was four months later) he was sure he wanted to go even though he would miss his friends.

I regret not having my ds take the test in his 3rd grade year. 3rd grade was great for him and I thought that would continue--but it hasn't. 4th grade (this year) he has an uninspired teacher and the school is starting to softly slow down the grade in anticipation of 2.0 next year. Lots of worries about the rollout of 2.0 in his 5th grade year next year. Wish I'd known and applied him for hgc.
