Auditory Processing/Sensory?

Anonymous
Our son, who's in kindergarten, has said to us that he doesn't like how loud it sometimes is at school, especially in the lunchroom. On other occasions, he'll ask us several times "What did you say?", even after we've repeated our response back.

He went through a lot of ear infections when he was younger. We had his hearing tested by an audiologist and he was fine.

He seems on the whole to be dealing with things fine - but we wonder if there's something else possibly going on. Specifically, we wonder if he has auditory processing issues in part because learning letter/sound correspondence has seemed to be challenging, as is learning his letters. His teachers at school don't seem concerned with anything at this point.

Any thoughts?

Just a thought. Have you ever been to his school while he is in the cafeteria? Most public school cafeterias have to be THE loudest, most overstimulating places ever. When I student taught, I couldn't wait to get my kids through the lunch line so I could get out of there b/c it was so loud. That's why the kids are so hyped up when they leave after 20-30 mins. I always had a few kids who lost it during lunch and had to be sent to the office. Just visit one day while he is at lunch. Also, ask him specific places where he feels it is loud (maybe the gym or recess?)
