My dog twitches and kicks while she's napping. Is this just bad dreams or is she having seizures? |
I have had three dogs in my life. The first was constantly chasing her dream squirrels and rabbits, complete with eye rolls, barking, and running. She lived to be 16 and was very healthy until about age 14 or so.
The other two dream less, but still will twitch around their muzzles and eyes, paws will also move or twitch. It sounds pretty normal to me. |
Just dreaming or whatnot. Totally normal. My dog did this all the time; when the day came that she had an actual seizure there was no comparison. You will know if your dog has a real seizure. |
This is doggy REM sleep. Your dog is out chasing squirrels or playing in the dog park in his/her dreams. My dog twitches and barks in his sleep. |
I love it when my dog does this. She's even jumped up from a dead sleep, in a quick run/bark. Then she stopped, looked around and went back to her bed.

Okay, thanks for the reassurance! I'm glad she's catching those squirrels somewhere! |
You'd know a seizure. They usually go rigid and dog paddle while lying down and gasp for air and salivate/drool. They may also lose control of their bladder and/or bowels. When they come to, they are usually dazed and confused for a few moments, sniff around alot, and then get very excited.... |
