I've heard horror stories about low SES kids (minority kids) not succeeding but I'm wondering about the ones that made it.
|
|
Not all "scholarship" kids are minorities. We are Lilly white and have been receiving "financial aid" for years. Some minority kids come from super rich families.
I hope (but pretty much assume) my kids will be a success story. I am a success story (although didn't grow up poor) but I just don't have an extra 98,000 before taxes, so I appreciate the grant that we get. |

What is the real underlying purpose of this post. I have noticed recently a lot of post regarding AA which inevitably leads to disparaging remarks on both sides.
I'm not sure about OP's intentions with this post but I guarantee a fight will break out sooner or later. Are you telling me there's nothing else to talk about? |

Hopefully you are looking for a way to make a difference.
Here is a school making a difference that feeds into the private catholic schools. http://www.wjacademy.org/about/success Also here is another. http://sanmigueldc.org/?page_id=97 Here is a high school making a difference. http://www.donboscocristorey.org/about_us/our_mission_and_values.html# So many success stories. |
I assume OP is the private school booster trying to rally the side. |
|
Another story of hard work and determination with some support and mentoring.

OP, is this you giving all the links? |
|
No. I am giving the links and I am not the OP.
I know many success stories but I only feel comfortable sharing ones that have been posted on a public forum. |
| There are many success stories ... try googling them. |
| What does it mean to "succeed"? You mean go rags to riches? Or... place at HYP? Or, would a happy ordinary life count? |

Most of these school are college preparatory school. I would say being prepared for college would be the goal.
Though some of the mentor programs follow the kids until their 2nd year of college. |
