| Ugh. I so want to quit over this. I really need another position to help lighten the load but I am being forced to hire someone's kid. This is really eating me up inside. For those that have been in similar situations, how did you make peace with this and keep doing your job? It is so obvious that ths person is not qualified for ths position, that her coworkers make fun of her. |
| Who is forcing you too? If its the owner of the company, then you just need to accept it, those are the breaks. If it is someone else can you talk to hr about their lack of qualifications? |
| Yes, I know. The government is such a mess. |
Contact the Office of Special Counsel. This is illegal. |
|
Happens all the time in Gov't.
Anyhow, is the kid even semi-qualified? |
| Know someone who should be retired from a govt job but is hanging on until DC can join the organization. Said person does the bare minimum and kicks back most of the time at work. |
That my be true. But given a different job environment and different responsibilities, she may rise to the challenge and surprise you. Don't be so high school about it. Pre-conceived notions limit both you and her. |
Sounds like Marion Barry!
|
| If the is in the Fed Gov't, WELCOME! |
No. As a previous poster said, in the government, this is actually illegal. Call OSC (Office of Special Counsel) and ask to speak with someone there. |
Nah, either you have it or you don't in this field. What makes it even more ridiculous is that I only have enough work for 50 percent of the people in the department. Thanks for the tip about the OSC, I will keep it in my back pocket. |
In your OP you state that you really need another person to help lighten the load. If the rest of your staff are only 50% occupied, why do you need another person? Just re-assign the work. |
| Nah, different skill set and grade level. Those that are not working at capacity are different skill sets than what I need. |
| this makes me mad. I've been looking for a gov job for years and can't seem to get my foot in the door. If only I'd had a relative.... |
You don't need a relative, but a friend can make all the difference. |
