Surprise Saturday meeting required by client wwyd?

Anonymous
I've got a consulting business and recently landed our biggest client in November. I serve as a part time c level executive to this company. I'm super pissed that they scheduled an all day Saturday meeting for execs. I'm upset because I have weekend travel plans w family and a sports ticket purchased that weekend, and that this was a mandate, with no consideration to others as far as "what dates may work". Not to mention its a weekend.

This boss seems to think I'm an employee, even though he knows I have other clients, and am not full time w them. I want to do what Ithan for them, but I'm just so pissed and disappointed at the prospect of having to miss my trip. FYI the trip is just about 2 hours away, so it's possible I could attend and then leave early.

What would you do?

Did you just find out yesterday. If so, say that with such short notice, you won't be able to attend. You have plans that were made months ago.

This might mean losing the client. I would explain to client your situation and go from there. Those are the breaks sometimes.

Your own business & your biggest client? I'd do the meeting no questions asked

Is your attendance integral to keeping the work? If this is the way he operates, and this will be a long term project, do you want to keep the work? A lot of people work like that. You have a choice whether you want to work with them.

If you make more than 180k, stfu, its called shared sacrifice. Donate your ticket to the less fortunate and reschedule you weekend plans, I am sure you can afford it.

Same here. I am also a consultant and clients come first. Maybe you can do part of the day and then rejoin your family?

Uh, yeah. You've had the client for less than 3 months, OP. This is pretty simple.

sorry OP those are the breaks. If I were you I would attend the meeting, then make the 2 hour drive to join your family after the meeting's over.
