Best year to apply to St. Albans?

Our son is currently in third grade at a private school.

I think there are maybe more applicants for lower school, but by high school it is tough because the academic standards are high and students have more of a track record. I think 6th grade might be the best bet?

4th, 7th and 9th are the entry years. Places in other classes depend on attrition.

7th is the best year: 25 or so matriculate in the 7th grade. 9th grade is harder because of the reasons a PP mentioned, and they are looking for specific talents to round out the class. 4th is extremely competitive, with Beauvoir 3rd-graders applying.

With junior high schools being phased out and middle schools phased in, entry years have become 4th, 6th, 7th and 9th grades. Where they once expanded by 15 - 18 in 7th grade, last year they expanded by 7 in the 6th grade and 13 in 7th.
