Agree. Fun, but also mean and mostly inaccurate.

A good diversion, but the mean-spiritedness makes it a bit tiresome. A few years back there was a "tell us your kids' names and we'll tell you your life story" thread that was really well done. The tone was witty and observant, but with more empathy, which made it all the more interesting and nuanced. Now, that poster could become a fine novelist of manners.

Declared bankruptcy in July. They still have more stores than you might guess, in fact they’re approved to sell themselves to their landlord, a mall group that owns other zombie denim brands: Nautica, Aeropostale, etc.

Wow the Kennedy thing is so spot on. I have a good friend named Kennedy, we met in college, she was friendly, I was the curious looking and sounding foreigner. Family's been in Hollywood in various capacities since the silent film days, but Larla is the main character of her life and wanted to try something different so she went off to NYU before transferring to Columbia to study English literature. One of Larla's strongest points is her mental resilience, her ability to not let anything faze her, and she took to NYC incredibly well. Her already chill inner vibe, combined with the meditation and green juice self-care practices she learned back home before they were mainstream, kept her going through a six-month stint in investment banking (BIG mistake), but she met her partner in her Analyst class and he supported her as she left IB to apply for the Iowa Writer's Workshop. She'd had a string of successes in college, winning awards for her writing, and she decided to have a go at it in a more formal capacity.

Larla did get accepted into Iowa, but opted not to go -- she was incredibly excited about a political candidate, and her man was moving to DC for law school anyway, so she jumped headfirst into politics and was part of a winning presidential campaign. Sure, she saw some unsavory stuff and was considering a White House job, but she was tapped to go into the lobbying world, which led her to doing secretive crisis communication work, allowing her to stay out of the spotlight as she wanted (however, if you're in the field, you know exactly who she is).

Larla is the mother of two young children, 8 and 10, now. She and her partner (they never married; they don't believe in it as an institution) lived in Adams Morgan briefly before giving Cleveland Park a go and finally settling in McLean, VA. She's working on starting her own firm once the children are a little older and the groundwork is set for her to make it big once she does.

Yes, eventually! Covid put a damper on things, since her firm's business really took off and she was juggling the kids' virtual schooling. She'll be solidly independent by the time the kids are in HS. She's in no rush.
