SAHMs - what made you decide to SAH? Question from new SAHM

Anonymous
"I decided to be a stay at home mom for pretty much all the reasons everyone else gave, but what sealed the deal for me was that as an elementary school teacher I noticed that pretty much all of my really "top" kids had stay at home moms. I know many working moms are going to slam me for saying that. Of course there are well-behaved, high achieving students who also have full-time working moms. But based on what I saw from teaching for 10 years at three different schools the "better" students seemed to disproportionately come from families with involved stay at home moms. "

I have decided that most teachers are not very smart based on X years of personal observation.

"Most of us are just trying to shoot something off as quick as possible and don't really care if there are some spelling mistakes or typos. "

If you don't really care, why are you bringing it up?
You don't see the irony of spelling mistakes in this thread? Wow!

Your EXCUSE ME you're an idiot because you discount as STUPID the personal observations that teachers in this forum have made.

I can see why a teacher would *feel* like the kids of SAHMs are superior. In reality, these will not be the kids necessarily going on to the top 25 schools or becoming doctors, lawyers, scientists etc. Teachers are human and it is natural for them to favor the kids' whose parents are in the school volunteering more and helping the teacher out. Many schools just do not have the budget to hire assistants or attract great talent so the teacher who may already be in over her head is very dependent on the mom helpers. The anecdotes are more a form of masked favoritism which is understandable.

Man, you people are real winners! Teachers are stupid, kids that do well in elementary and have SAH moms won't go on to "top 25 schools.". I don't know what other things you are, but I do know you are a DOUCHE! Go back and read your posts! Ugh! You are the perfect example of just the kind of person people around here complain about; egotistical, arrogant, judgemental, and over-ambitious. WOHM, SAHM, whatever...just don't be this kind of mom!

No I don't see the irony of spelling mistakes in this thread.

"There was more than one teacher who answered."

All of whom were morons.

Yeah, over-ambitious. Overly concerned about things like, "top 25 colleges," and who is a doctor, lawyer, etc.... There is nothing at all wrong with wanting to succeed, but this kind of person is very concious of these outwardly visible signs of success. It is how they measure a person's worth. It's an unflattering characteristic to have. Honestly, what a jerk!

I don't agree with the working mom lunatic, but I did find it funny when someone typed "your an idiot".

What does that have do to with noting that most teachers are quite dumb?

Look, three teachers chimed in on this thread and made statements that were concerning and probably unfair. I am a SAHM and I was alarmed by the conclusions they made based on a handful of children because guess what, those teachers may have an unfair bias toward the children of SAHM's but you can bet there are as many teachers making judgements that are unflattering about SAHP's. To say that, because three teachers on this thread made inaccurate comments, all teachers or even most teachers are dumb is as unfair as me saying that WOHM's choose ambition over their children because a few inevitably do (and there are some SAHM's who are lazy or dumb or whatever, but that doesn't mean most are).

How can someone "note" that most teachers are "quite dumb" and not realize they are being a total asshole!? Not to mention being incorrect? So, all you scientific study loving ladies, where's is the research to document your observations? Don't you see a connection between the judgements you are making and the judements made by the teachers who said the SAHM kids were the top students? DATA IS NOT THE PLURAL OF ANECDOTE, like has already been mentioned in this thread.

This thread is just insane. I'm glad I have yet to meet one of these crazies in person.

The other said she knew that work status of her top students' moms because she had gotten to know them well. She also said that she had no idea of the work status of her other students' moms.

That was me -- the teacher who observed 20 preschools and daycares, and also taught in a "less affluent than typical DCUM population school". It was in Fairfax County, so families were more middle and upper middle class, but not the $400,OOO+ HHI as you find here on dcum.

Also, I'm sure I'm a moron some days, but for the record (because I feel teachers are really getting maligned on this thread) I'm pretty smart. I did attend (and graduate from) an Ivy League college and plan to send my kids to some pretty good schools, too. Maybe even "top 25"...

Lessons I gleaned from this brilliant DCUM thread:

1) Teachers are dumb.
2) SAHMs are lazy and gold-diggers.
3) WOHMs all value their careers more than their children.
4) Daycare workers are much more qualified to raise my children.

To the poster that thinks all teachers are morons, do you homeschool your children? If not, how do you justify this?

I like having lots of time, I like not being hurried or stressed, I like being able to plan my own schedule and pursue my own interests, and it works better for our family to have one parent at home."

Very nice post, thank you.

Well-said.
