Talk me off a ledge

What happened to having the freedom to choose between whether to try and "make enough to be comfortable and happy" and "amass millions"? I certainly won't choose the latter but don't begrudge others for pursuing it.

Completely disagree with this. Grad schools and law schools want a diverse student body and she will stand out at a small school.

You don’t understand what East Stroudsburg is. It is the equivalent of someone from PA enrolling at UDC and paying room and board.

If you think doing well at UDC is the ticket to a great law school…well, then I guess you are correct.

Jesus people. What happened to “be a good person and contribute to society while making enough to be comfortable and happy” success? Why is it all about amassing millions? I’m so glad I don’t know anyone like you guys IRL. Your priorities are effed up.

Not sure you’re going to achieve the former at East Stroudsburg tbh.

This. If going Med, go small and best GPA and save 250K for med school. No one cares about their undergrad after first job in any field unless you are from Stanford or something. Lehigh, Colgate, Villanova, no. All expensive decent schools I would give no extra points to in hiring.

It’s beyond stupid to think that Lehigh, Colgate, Villanova, and East Stroudsburg will have equal weight in med school admissions and in future hiring.

It’s ridiculous to pretend that students from all four will have equally impressive resumes in 5-10 years. They just won’t.

Things stack up over time. Better undergrad = better grad = better jobs from then on.

I have several friends who went to Ivies. None of their kids have gone Ivy (yet) and all said that med school admissions would be better at “lesser” schools. And all of them have lots of anecdotes about friends who got into med school from those schools (incl from ESU) and fellow Ivy students who didn’t bc they didn’t do as well.

Fwiw.

You need to make your lies believable. I doubt you even know ESU and no your friends don’t have “lots” of anecdotes about friends getting into med schools from not just a 2nd tier school…not even 3rd tier…call it a 20th tier school.

Thank GOODNESS I have you to come on here and tell me what is my truth and what I know. What a relief!

Sorry the post doesn't fit your narrative but my post is 100% true, whether you want it to be or not.

It’s typical DCUM hand waving and gaslighting. If it doesn’t align with their belief system “it’s all lies!” If you didn’t go to a prestigious school there’s absolutely no way you can succeed. None.

I went to a T150 and got in to the #1 dental school in the country (#4 in the world) But I suppose that’s all lies too.

You went to a T150 school...not a school that would rank somewhere around 2000, with a 50% graduation rate.

Not sure how you would remotely equate the two.

I'm curious what decision was made in the end. I know an exceptionally high performing kid who ended up at IUP in PA and I've always wondered why, given that she attended a private school in an affluent suburb that sends high-flyers to Ivies and T20s. Yes, I know times can be tough and people can hide or deal with financial difficulties privately, but my kid had been to her family's McMansion before and there was no indication of financial concerns. I also know a couple of good but not great students who ended up at Wilkes University for their BS/MD program with Penn State.
Anonymous
Oh yes, maybe look into BS/MD programs for the next cycle, especially the programs between less competitive schools and their associated or state-affiliated medical school.

What did OP's kid decide to do?
