The PD video teachers must watch on Monday

Teachers must focus on making their classroom an anti-racism environment as student achievement levels are being negatively impacted by structural racism and teachers innate biases.
Also, we were told to have more empathy for EML students and that teachers are not doing a good job bringing up the achievement level of EML students.

And all of you teachers didn't revolt at the blatant dumping on you all and your skills, competency and profession? Because this is pretty offensive to me, but I'm just a parent.

There was a lot of eye rolling and muttering among teachers but how can we revolt? We openly talked amongst ourselves about how the PD was a complete waste of time but what is the point of antagonising our administration. I have seen administrators make life hell for teachers they don’t like. I try to keep my head down as much as possible and focus on my classes and students. Everything MCPS does or asks me to do seems to suck time away from grading and lesson planning and makes me less effective as a teacher.

I wish we could find out who in central office thought hiring this woman was a good idea. And how much money did they pay her.

Training for school based leaders was paid for with federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds according to this article.

Well…reading this paper, the selection of Dr. Shalaby as keynote for PD by Heather makes a lot of sense.

There was very little that addressed math instruction in that paper.

Wow. Ok. So on page 14, the idea that in math “things that can be measured are valued” is apparently racist and evidence of white supremacy culture in mcps according to these employees. Is that not what math is? To measure, see patterns, have concrete numbers and data for comparison to help solve things in everyday life? Why even measure or calculate or evaluate anything at all?

Hmmm well as an actual TEACHER (not support staff, which are not held to the same level of accountability) I have heard of ZERO teachers that felt it was a beneficial experience. These idiots sit on their thrones in central and have no idea. NO idea what we all deal with on a daily basis. It's barely October and teachers are drowning. Good job MCPS! Let's not address real issues that are going on right now LIKE SEXUAL HARASSMENT, zero consequences for student behavior..lack of work ethic....Maslow before Bloom people. That's where we are. Help us address our primary needs first and then maybe we can address inequities in the curriculum (that MCPS writes internally by these 'instructional specialists')
