Weighing yourself?

Anonymous
Do you all have scales at home to weigh yourself on or do you just see how your clothes fit? I haven't had a scale in years (weigh myself at the gym once on a blue moon) but thinking maybe I should get one again. Did better not obsessing about weight over the years but now I really put on 10 lbs which I want to lose.

I have one at home and weigh myself ~4 times a week. I find it keeps me more accountable, especially with the cheaper stretchier fabrics that most of my clothes are made out of-I can't really tell if they still fit or if they have stretched. I strive to only weigh in once a week so I don't obsess over it, though.

Also, I like that this scale is calibrated the same and that I can weigh myself in a consistent manner (naked, first thing in the morning), which you cannot count on at the gym.

We have a bathroom scale and I weigh myself on Monday mornings - and occasionally a couple other days/week. I try to keep track to make sure I'm not gaining when I don't want to be - or that I'm losing weight when I'm trying to.

DH weighs himself twice/day! He has some weight issues and he's fascinated by how much his weigh flucuates. I don't know if he's typical, but he weighs around 200 pounds and his weight can fluctuate by as much as 5-7 pounds in a day.

I've never weighed myself. I go by my jeans.

I weigh myself every morning (naked after I peed!). I don't fluctuate much that way and I can tell when I go up or down. I stopped counting calories and just try to eat what I want when I'm hungry and do moderate exercise. Weighing everyday keeps me honest about what I'm eating.

I have weighed myself nearly every day for the last 6 months while I've been losing weight. Clothes are one guide but the scale is a more accurate one. I find it motivating to see the numbers, even if they are the same for a few days it's still lower than it was a month ago and motivates me to stick with it. I got a nice digital scale - no rounding down on that.

I think it depends on your personality. You can definitely lose weight and do just fine with no scale and simply taking measurements.

I took a month off from weighingmyself and it was great. I am someone who gets upset when the numbers go up or I don't lose weight when I feel I worked hard and should have. So a month off was good. I know when I eating well, exercising and living a healthy lifestyle and don't need a number to ruin my day. Scales also dont always give a good picture of how you are doing or if you are toning.

I've read that if you want to track your weight, the most accurate way to do it is to weigh yourself every day, average your weight for the week, and then compare your weight from one week to the next. Pick a time of day (e.g. when you get up in the morning, after going to the bathroom) and stick to it. Comparing your weight from week to week means you don't worry about the inevitable daily fluctuations!

I try to weigh myself every day, but I don't average. On the other hand, I'm not trying to lose weight. I just want to stay within an acceptable range.

The fluctuation fascinates me too. I am 100-107 pounds (shorty here). Weight fluctuates as much as 5 lbs a day (depending on time of day). This actually really freaks me out.

My weight fluctuates up to five pounds within the same day (from morning until night), however, it rarely fluctuates more than half a pound from day to day when I weigh at the same time under the same conditions...with the exception of right before my period...I always gain 2lbs.

The last time I tried to get myself together I weighed myself every day and it was so demoralizing. This time I'm limiting it to weekly weigh ins.

Me too. I also gain a couple of pounds the day after I eat very salty food - body retains more water.

My doctor says the best thing to do is weigh only once a week (pick a day) and weigh the first thing in the morning so I've been doing that. I picked Monday b/c it makes me be better over the weekend knowing I have to face the scale.

Yes, daily, in the morning. I used to think this would make me crazy/obsessive, but I find that it's actually made me understand my body better and helped me tweak what I'm doing in the moment. Last year I lost 10 lbs this way--weighing myself every morning, eating better, exercising (but not a ton). I've kept it off, and I think the daily weigh-ins play a big role by making me attentive but not obsessive.

I have a super-old scale in my bathroom. It seems to agree with the ones at my gym. I try to weigh myself about once a week, but occasionally I'll be curious and weigh myself more often. (like after a long run on a hot day or after a boozy-foody weekend.)

I'm at about 10 lbs higher than my pre-baby/usual weight and would like to lose that, but I don't like restrictive diets so mostly I just exercise daily and try to limit my unhealthy snacking and sweets intake and hope for the best.
