I'm looking for an all around cheap grocery store where I can go one place for organic produce, milk, and meat, and also food without perservatives. TIA! |
Trader Joes. |
I don't think there is one stop shopping for that.
I buy meat at the farmer's market on Sunday in Bethesda and I also get meat every two weeks from an Amish farmer who comes in to town. I buy milk and some staples at MOM's Organic Market. I stock up on canned goods and some produce at Trader Joe's. I can also get other produce at Giant. Whole Foods is also an option though it is usually my last choice. Roots is lovely but very expensive. |
Op here. How does Wegman's compare in price? |
IMO Wegmans just as expensive as Whole Foods, if not more. |
bump |
Should never be confused with being a health food store. Most of what it sells is chock full of preservatives anyway. It's basically all processed junk. |
Safeway or Giant...
You said cheapest. They have a lot of these types of food now. |
OP here. Huh? I thought that they have their own label, with no MSG, no preservatives, etc. |
I think their organic foods are more expensive than Whole Foods. |
I think it's item by item. Some stuff is pretty good. |
Whole Foods is, bar none, the cheapest place for organic...well, whole foods. I get all my organic produce and frozen veggies, as well as bread, cheese, meat there.
Other stores charge a heftier premium for organic produce. Organic chicken is cheaper at HT or Wegmans, but I am not going to go to two stores just to save $1 or $2 a week! |
actually safeway and giant are REALLY expensive if you buy organic and the organic produce is awful. I think it's b/c they rarely sell the stuff so the turnover is low. |
I had heard that Whole Foods was the most expensive -- but I will check it out again. (OP here.) THanks for all of your input, PPs. |
Hmmm this is not really true. You have to read labels. The TJs brand promises not to contain artificial colors, perseratives but some of the other brands do. People, READ LABELS. |
