Dog share

Anybody want to do this with us? We'll take the dog from 1st to 15th of the month. You get the second half. Of course, both parties are flexible for sched changes due to vacations, etc.

We dont have a dog yet and We can discuss the details, but is this idea even feasible?

Yeah, dogs are pack animals. I can't think of anything more disorienting and upsetting to a dog than to continually yank it away from its pack for extended periods expecting it to simply adjust to new conditions (smells, people, etc,) every two weeks. This has to be a joke question.

Yes,2 weeks straight in each home. Having 3 kids in a small home, we are reluctant to take on commitment- but everybody wants a dog.

Wait until your kids are a little older and get a dog when you feel you can make the commitment. Dogs are very loyal and creatures of habit. They thrive on consistency and routine. You will have a better dog-owning experience if you wait until you can make a dog a member of your family.

Dogs are not lawn ornaments, OP. You can't just pass one back and forth and expect it to be happy and well-behaved. Sounds like you're more cut out to maybe watch a friend's dog for the weekend.

That sounds like an absolutely terrible situation to bring a dog into. If you aren't ready to take on the commitment of a dog, don't get one. Dogs need consistency, especially at a young age, in order to be happy and well behaved.

This is great advice. When I was a kid until my parents wanted to commit to a pet, we would dog sit a neighbors dog whenever they travelled and they travelled a lot.

Be prepared for the kids to weep, shriek, and be absolutely bewildered when the dog leaves. Be prepared for the dog to lose its housebreaking when it reappears every two weeks.

God I can't imagine a bigger recipe for disaster.

and if your marriages fail, one week each household, or will the dog stay put and the families move?

OP, I know it's not the same as a dog, but have you considered a small aquarium with fish or a hamster?
