Soccer camp

Anonymous
Any leads? I'm looking for a full day camp for an 8 year old. I'm looking for something reasonably intense (not just an hour of soccer in a general camp), because it is time for him to learn what it means to be good at something. (He's naturally very talented, and proud of his talent, but he really has no sense of what it means to work on a skill.)

Please: no parenting advice, just camp advice.

Thanks in advance.

OP here: I'm only interested in NOVA and DC camps.

Thanks for those leads. I appreciate it. Can you tell me what you/your child liked about them?

HeadFirst focuses quite a bit on teamwork and sportsmanship. Georgetown International focuses quite a bit on technical skills. Both of these were areas that my child needed to work on. Best of all, my child truly enjoyed both camps. We've done HeadFirst (fall, winter and/or summer) for three years and Georgetown International for two years (winter).

OP here -

A big thanks to 5:58. That is exactly what I was looking for.

Good luck planning your summer.

I was the poster who mentioned UK elite. I actually cannot speak very well as to how the camp is run, because I don't have kids, and therefore have never sent them to camp. But, i met and became very good friends with several of the staff at the UK elite location near me, and they are some of the most dedicated, fun to be with, qualified, people i know, and they were genuinely interested in working with kids. If i had kids, i would look into it for sure!

George Mason University used to offer a summer soccer camp for 8-15 years old . You could do all or half day options. It was excellent! I'm not sure if they have it anymore. It was right there by the field house so it was easy to pick up and drop off (no need to actually drive on campus).

American Soccer Academy has camps at various locations - my son (7 at the time) has done it and enjoyed the skills training and scrimmages. Many good counselors and adult coaches.

St Patrick's summer program has a soccer camp for the first session (3 weeks) for 6-9 year olds. My son (7) did it last year and is doing it again this year. He LOVED it. The coaches are great, they have a swimming pool and go in 1-2 times per day and they do have some activities other than soccer although soccer is the focus. You can read about it on the St Pat's web site.

Sidwell's Boys Varsity coach is doing a boys only session 6/16-20 for grades 2-7 on their DC campus. He is quite good.
