Choroid Plexus Cysts

Anonymous
Had a routine ultrasound today (19 weeks) and I thought everything went fine. Later today I received a call from my OBGYN that they had found two choroid plexus cysts. My doctor told me not to worry and that these almost always resolve on their own. I need to go and have a follow-up ultrasound in 7 weeks. I'm trying not to panic about this but I was hoping that maybe someone else has gone through this and could share their story. Hearing there are cysts on the brain just kind of sent me over the edge.

My son had also been diagnosed with choroid plexus cysts during my 18 week ultrasound. My doctor said the same thing - that they usually resolve themselves - but to hear that my son had cysts in his brain was devastating. Our doctor recommended we do an amnio because of my age and because he had other soft markers for a genetic disease. Our amnio results came back clear so that was a big relief, but the cysts were still there. I must have poured through every online article I could find about them. Every time I had a follow-up ultrasound, all I kept thinking was "please let them be gone, please let them be gone." I think I had maybe three more regularly scheduled ultrasounds and they were still there. Then finally, at maybe 32 weeks, they disappeared! I cried when the technician told me she didn't see anything. My son is now a healthy and happy 9 month old. Most choroid plexus cysts do resolve themselves, but it's the stress/anxiety of knowing if/when that will happen that can drive you crazy. Good luck with your little one.

Thank you for your response. I really didn't start freaking out until a did a google search. It was when I started reading all the info that I burst out in tears. My doctor did not mention anything about an amnio. I'm 34 and the cysts were the only abnormalities they found.
