Best preschool for "gifted" child?

Anonymous
If you had indications that your child were potentially significantly gifted in terms of intelligence (particularly language development and use), what preschool would you choose? Thanks for your thoughts.

Montessori.

Any particular one or just in general? Thanks.

If it's true Montessori, it does not matter. Don't over do it though. Remember, play is most important at this age.

If your child is truly gifted, then it won't matter what environment they're in at such a young age. I would be very hesitant to send my child anywhere that claimed to be for "gifted" preschoolers. It's more important to find a warm, nurturing environment that allows your child to be who they are - and also that lets them be kids! I have a gifted child and she went to a play-based preschool - with kids behind, on and above the curve. She made friends with them all and learned so much from ALL of the kids - just because one child is gifted in 1 or 2 areas, doesn't make them gifted all around. I say let them be little, make wonderful friendships and learn to be great people before sending them into the world as "gifted". I know I struggled for a time in the fact that my child was ahead and thinking she needed to "learn" more than what the lessons and themes were providing, until I realized that she was still learning at her own pace, in her own time with us at home and just from being out in the world. I wouldn't stress too much about it.

Thanks - and I agree with you about not stressing on it. I'm not looking for her to be taught literature or anything like that. I completely get that the most important aspects of preschool are social. Just looking for info about where they might best accommodate children's different paces of learning and allow her best to thrive.

In reference to Aidan Montessori, OP, do a search of this board -- there was a thread about this school not too long ago, and the almost universal feeling was that its application process, at least, was extremely off-putting.

And I've seen some very negative reviews of Nysmith on www.greatschools.net!
