Insight into AOUSC and DOL for attorney positions?

Anonymous
There are two attorney positions listed on USAJOBS currently, one is an Assistant General Counsel position with Administrative Office of the US Courts and the other is a trial attorney position with the Department of Labor litigating longshoremen/black lung cases.

Does anyone have any insight on either of these two offices? Opportunity for job growth? General work/life, managerial situation?

Those are very different positions. I'd bet the AOUSC job is wired. I applied for lots of jobs at that office, and never got an interview, despite being overqualified. Seems to be a who-you-know type of place. The DOL job should be open. Pretty depressing work, though. I know 2 people who were offered those jobs, but not in DC. I thought the regional offices litigated the black lung cases. It's a good entry-level job. You get experience, and can then parlay it into something else. Don't see anyone staying in that job for long.
