Fidning a head hunter

DH has been recruited for specific jobs quite a bit, but needs to find a head hunter who works for him and helps him find a partner horizontal. He's in consulting; IT type stuff. Any ideas what firms tend to do this well?

Head hunters do not work for job seekers. They work for firms.

Having used one for this myself, that's just not true. Different head hunters may only do one or the other, though.

I am a retained executive recruiter. We are retained by organizations to find candidates. It is a "counter-intuitive" business. We usually can't help people looking for jobs. We are looking for specific candidates as spelled out by the clients.

There are "recruiters" who do work for candidates. Staffing firms such as "Trak Services" look for administrative/operations help. Some other recruiters may be able to help.

There are different levels of recruiting based upon the job title. The higher the title -- the more likely executive recruiting will take place ... which means paid for by the organization and working for the organization.

That's true, however, I have a couple of head hunters that I stay in contact with. Although they work for companies, they do keep you top of mind when something good comes up. I found my current job through a head hunter. I happened to call her to catch up, and she said that she had a job I might be interested in. They still need great candidates when good jobs come up. The thing is that the relationship might not bear fruit for years, but when it does, it's great.

The key is to know head hunters. Not just when you need a job. Having a good relationship with a head hunter is KEY!
