Lacrosse Culture at St Albans?

So they have to rely on kids who can play lacrosse, can afford the price and are good students, all knowing that most years they are not able to be competitive with the rest of the IAC. That means a much smaller talent pool than the rest of the league.

Is this true?!?!? This is the school I need for my son.

It is not true about admissions. They may do it less than others, but they do it and for many reasons.

The part about the talent pool is true. 80-ish in a class and despite professing that they expect boys to play a sport each season, many play "intramurals" which is a 30-45 minute after school rec session before getting back to the books.

Lacrosse is not football people.

31 kids on the football team last year. Soon there won't be enough to field a team without going super diverse like Landon had to. There will not be a varsity IAC football league in 10 years. Maybe less.

The reason Landon's football program has been much more competitive in recent years (they have always been pretty solid in the IAC, historically speaking) is that several of the star football 8th graders are no longer leaving Landon after middle school for WCAC programs such as DeMatha, Good Counsel or Gonzaga. While some still leave to play more competitive football in the WCAC, several have opted to stay at Landon as a result of the new coaches Landon brought in 4 years ago.

Most IAC football rosters are more diverse than what they were 5 - 6 years ago.

I sure hope the IAC doesn't abandon football, some of my sons best memories were on the gridiron.

WTF, “going super diverse”? Am I the only one offended by this allusion?

Why be offended? How about the only way for private DC area schools to stay competitive in football in the future is to recruit and give scholarships to black athletes from PG county. The giving of athletic scholarships will be at the expense of giving educational aid to minority students who will really make the school diverse for things like the arts or science. And Landon would not have a football team if they didn't have over 20 of the kids being brought in on aid to play football.

You should be offended by the this growing practice and not by allusions. You should be offended the school brings in black athletes for the majority purpose of entertainment rather than education.

Some of these schools will abandon football when it becomes too difficult to field teams. It is becoming more and more difficult to field teams because many parents worry that their sons won't have memories of high school when they are in their 40s and 50s due to concussions ... Lacrosse has tried to minimize hitting, a move that will pay off for the growth of the sport.

You are very misinformed and your post is rather insulting to several in the African American community.

It's insulting as an African American parent that i have a son who is a straight A student who tests off the chart and because he doesn't play football or basketball he didn't get into these schools.

And i am not misinformed. There is a reason why landon stopped posting team photos. It was becoming embarrassing.

Landon has never posted team photos on the website. I get it, you are obsessed with hating the school.

They may not post on the official school site but they certainly post on social media. PP appears to be right on imbalance of the football program at least. Perhaps a little more of the diversity could be spread to steam instead of athletics.

The sports hierarchy always includes in the top 3 in varying orders soccer, lacrosse and crew. Soccer because they win a lot, crew because they all place Ivy, and lax because they have the flow (of the hair and cash variety).

It is good to know that all the purported wealth and power of the STA community can’t buy a top flight lacrosse program.

Perhaps because STA isn't interested in accepting a lower academic profile just for the sake of its lacrosse program?
