After Monday

I would imagine grading is actually done but just not synced to Synergy yet. Which is weird because its just a button you have to press. My coteacher said she is waiting until the deadline to sync in case “anything changes”. Seemed weird to me

Huh? Feb 17th isn't marked as a possible make-up day. It's March 20th and April 15th as possible make-up days.

Not should it be one.

MD sent out a notice that said districts could opt to use President's Day as a makeup day. It would make total sense for MCPS to pull back 2/16 and 2/17.

But 2/17 is not a makeup. So MD would allow 2/16 and then they would be off. Doesn’t make sense

MCPS could opt to make 2/17 a school day if they wanted to.

I don’t think they can if it’s not a designated makeup day.

Celebrate the lunar new year when you get up and get home! If that's what's stopping them from making it as a make up date. Geez. Why all these holidays. Public school system!

Don't blame the Asians. Teachers require those non-instructional days in the calendar. If it wasn't Lunar New Year, it would be some random other day.

We could blame the Jews for making us take their holidays off earlier in the year and making the schedule to provide 180 days more limited.

We could get rid of the Christian holidays like Easter.

Or we could just start 1 week earlier in August like Fairfax County does.

Since MCPS seems to think it's optimal to include only 1 snow day in the year, that might be less disruptive than requiring kids to come in on a Sunday, or changing the state law that requires a holiday for Easter Monday.

So obvious. Yet, too practical for MCPS. They prefer to have fewer instructional days and this annual drama about snow days where they manage to unite everyone is their unhappiness about MCPS performance.

There’s not fewer instructional days. 180 just like everyone else. Moco parents would lose their minds when if they found out other states have even less days required. Get a grip.

MCPS counts instructional days even when the make up days are half days in end-June and the teacher plays videos and the kids play board games.

Last year they even took a day that was scheduled as a full-day in June and turned it into a half day in June, so that teachers could have their required non-instructional time. So you get three half days in June, no instruction goes on, and yet you say we all get 180 days.

Procrastination... and claiming they're not paid enough to work on a day they get "off"

They went skiing last week.

Bingo.
There's a sliver of hope for Tues with temps going to upper 30s woo hoo.

Walls of ice won't melt just because its a little above freezing...

And whatever melts will just turn into ice overnight.

Honestly that’s what I’m worried about. The sidewalk in front of my house is completely clear of snow and ice, but if the icy snowbank between the sidewalk and the street starts to melt, water will cover the sidewalk. Then temps will drop. All I have is pet safe ice melt. I’m not sure it even works in such low temps. Will I have a sheet of ice on my sidewalk every morning after temps rise enough to melt anything? This cycle could go on for a long time.

My sidewalks are wet, it’s 31 degrees and dropping, and we might get a dusting of snow overnight in sub freezing temperatures. Doesn’t bode well. Here’s hoping for a 2 hour delay.

Haha idiot. They aren’t paid enough and frankly public school teachers are too dumb to get down a mountain on two planks - they don’t understand physics. They’re at least smarter than MCPS parents, though. You people paid to move to a county with “good” schools, you receive complete crap, you then complain, yet you’re too cheap to go private. Good luck getting your kids into a decent college.

You must be a lot of fun at parties. Is your social calendar as full as I think it is?
