So what? What would it change in your mind if the alleged racial demographics of the workers were different? |
I know! McKnight should be out there driving a plow to get these schools open. If not, what are we paying her for!?!? |
I teach AP classes and we do real work after the exams. If your teacher doesn't, complain. The whole "but the kids need a break" is a joke. Learning is precious, kids are lacking in basic skills (even in AP classes) and the people who waste kids' time showing movies or "West Wing" really make me upset. |
NP. In real life every MCPS parent I know thinks this is a joke. And DC coworkers were just (gently) making fun of us on my last Zoom. I seriously only think it is DCUM that is supportive of the decision to shut down school because there are two back alleys in Gaithersburg with some "black ice." |
In real life every MCPS parent I know thinks DCUM is a joke. |
So you meet on Zoom to make fun of people who aren't in a school building right now? Your coworkers sound hilarious. |
That's good to know. IMO, virtual is not ideal, but beats no school. |
As more than one poster on this thread has mentioned, there are schools that as of this morning had extremely icy parking lots and walkways. There were also many back roads that were quite icy and where trucks are getting stuck. MCPS has to make decisions not just based on whether parents can drive their SUV to get their kid to school but also whether buses and walkers can safely get to school. For those of us who have actually seen the conditions, the closure was totally predictable. Do I fully understand whether MCPS or the county could have better responded to this so the closure wouldn't be necessary? No, not my area of expertise. I certainly have questions but I definitely don't think it's a joke. |
Hahaha, exactly this. Are they making fun of Loudoun and Anne Arundel parents too? ($100 bucks says this never happened in the first place) |
Any other MCPS teachers out there who received a similar email? I'm wondering if this is a general email that went out to all teachers, or just to teachers in one school. |
Huh? There is a work call, when it becomes apparent some of us are dealing with kids on a second “snow” day, DC folks become smug (unfortunately for good cause this time). |
My school did not. But we had to update ours weeks ago. |
Where are you posting from? Where I am, in Montgomery County, there isn't "snow", there is snow. |
I got it too. But it is school specific. No official word yet on virtual but principals are planning ahead for the obvious choice on Friday |
DP,but the PP was clear. Other schools in the area are off today too-did your coworkers mock them? I've worked in DC for 25 years. No one I've ever worked with would make fun of other districts for having snow days off. Seems like you either imagined this or you work with extremely immature people. Either way, most MCPS parents I know don't think this is a joke. The ones in conditions that were driveable this morning are sympathetic to the people whose areas hadn't been plowed/icy. They realize their conditions aren't the same as other peoples and care about other's safety. I guess it's that little thing called maturity that you seem to be lacking in. |
