System does not watch things like this. If they did then family would have filed motion to terminate because nothing was going on. People seem to think that money came into the conservatorship. It does not seem that any did.

But has he lived that lavishly? I read that his home was worth 1.3 million, which is not an insane amount in the Nashville area.

The book and the movie are very different. John Lee Hancock wrote the script and directed the movie. He was the one that took extreme liberties with the story and the Tuohys had final approval on Michael’s behalf as his conservators.

The Tuohys become Oher’s legal guardian (ie conservator) in the movie. We don’t know if they ever approved any financial decisions on his behalf. It could be that the conservatorship was established to satisfy the NCAA but never had enforced by the Tuohys.

The Tuohys have already admitted that they weren’t keeping with filing annual financial documents with the court as mandated as conservators. They’re in trouble and should settle.

If all they did was not file then no they are not really in trouble. They should have or should have terminated it but it is really no harm no foul in a case like this. It would surprise me if there were any transaction or money since the movie. His nfl money did not go there. Most likely this was just dormant.

Now if there were transactions and they did not file then yes there would be issues.

But what this sounds like is that this was set up at the time he went to ole miss to get around some ncaa rules on financial support. It was then never used. It would surprise me a bit if there even was a bank account over the last 15 years.

I think it's something like this. The conservatorship was done for convenience and then not used. It should have been terminated, but maybe the Tuohys didn't want the publicity? Which isn't right. They should have worked something out.

And they DID set him up for success. He’s made a ton of money that appears to be all his. I’m waiting to pass judgment on either side.

I do think it's sad if this truly was just a business arrangement for the family, but maybe it wasn't. I'd like to think that they originally took him in because they cared, but then maybe saw a money making opportunity and went that way. Which is sad, but if it's the way I see it above, sounds like it was fair (if he did get his portion of the money owed.)

Not true. Oher had other people that were helping him, including a friend's father who introduced him to the principal of the private school where he played football. Oher had played football before and could have found success without the Tuohy family.

But - I still go back to asking why should he get all the money she made by going around giving speeches? She writes them, she advertised and marketed herself to get the invites/contracts, and she performs them. I've never seen anything she's done but if they are about HER perspective and HER experience with Oher then she has every right to make money doing it.

Oher's not asking for all the money, just a cut of what should be his-which is not unreasonable. No one would be paying attention to Leigh Anne without Oher's name. If Leigh Anne wants to be a motivational speaker on her own merits, and not pay him, perhaps she should refrain from speaking about him. Let's face it, without Oher, the Tuohy's are just another rich white family.
