I wouldn’t call MD a “very catholic school”.

I know several families who send their boys there because they don’t want to deal with the crazy DEI / woke BS that is found in MCPS. I wouldn’t call these families even practicing Catholics - they show 2x a year.

Most of these families don’t feel like dropping $45K to send their kids to STA or Landon or Bullis for lower school education and settle on MD which is more aligned with their budget.

St. Albans is about 61k for next year. Same tuition for all grades.

Without question PVI is the clear #1 ranked team in the DMV. The GP faithful will likely have something to complain about it.

The GP faithful always have something to complain about. The important thing to note is that GP isn’t even on the IL rankings radar. It’s a clear indication of how weak the IAC is as a conference.

Must be real tough being respectful toward people that are different from you in the "woke BS" schools. But I guess you can just go to confession, say a few Hail Mary's, and all that anger washes away.

If by “herd” you mean the large group of Catholics who grew up in the area and who are belong to the same parishes, grew up in many of the same neighborhoods, went to Catholic grammar school and high school together, belong to the same clubs and may have family ties, I guess you are right.

And I guess that would include parents that grew up in other areas but in similar environments and want that the same thing for their kids and themselves here in DC.

There are very few of these. And historically this has included those that MD didn't recommend to the high schools they have the closest relationships with.

We will never know whether this is true. Because the MD people only apply to Catholic high schools.

Not necessarily a complete list - might be missing a few, but confirmed High Schools that MD grads have gone to in the last 5 years (including this year's 8th grade class): GP, GZ, STA, GC, SJC, Bullis, Landon, Episcopal, GDS, Lawrenceville, Deerfield & Avon Old Farms. 4 are Catholic schools, 8 are not. A number of the HS's are very competitive to get into.

On average, the top 15% - 20% of MD 8th graders are high academic achievers, obviously that varies by year. My guess is that's a similar statistic to other elementary schools in the area (so not suggesting it's unique to MD). Not arguing it's a perfect school and similar to basically every other private school in the area, it has its share of parents that need a reality check and attitude adjustment, but the hate is fairly inaccurate and a little over the top (so right on par for DCUM).

A very odd take. A list of schools but no indication that most of them get very, very few MD kids. Prep, Gonzaga and SJC dominate. Depending on the year, anywhere from 50% to 75%!of the graduating class go to one school, Georgetown Prep. One name given to Mater Dei is “Prep for Prep”.

Two posts above said "Because those are the only schools most of those kids can get into" reffering to MD boys only going to Prep or Gonzaga and another post said "We will never know whether this is true. Because the MD people only apply to Catholic high schools" How is a list showing that MD grads have gone to 12+ different HS's (and showing that nearly 70% of them are not Catholic) "odd" in direct response to those posts?

It's also off base to suggest that every year between 20 to 28 MD boys out of 40 go to GP. That was perhaps true in the 80's and 90's - but not the case these days. Probably fair to say that 50% to 60%+ go to Prep and Gonzaga combined. As other posters have said, MD is a Catholic school that has parents that a) went to GP or GZ and/or b) want their son to go to a Catholic HS and those are 2 of the more prominent Catholic HS's in the area - so it's not a strange thing that a good number of MD boys go to those 2 schools (take a look at the MoCo parish schools and you're going to see similar stats for the boys that graduate). It seems like you have a bone to pick with MD and GP and maybe that's influencing your claims.

I bet for the class of 2028 25-30 went to prep. So it’s definitely year dependent but some years it’s almost all.

Where are the 2030 MD boys going?
