I drove past that synagogue on Macomb Street recently and saw kids playing recorders to help Sudan or something.
I hate to break it to you, but that's not going to do shit for Sudan. |
| If my kid played a recorder I would move to Sudan. |
|
OK, but the "Free Tibet" bumperstickers work, right? Right?
PS My child refused to practice his recorder, and I was so torn. I wanted him to do what his teacher wanted, but I did not want to hear the recorder. |
| Thanks for the news flash. |

Was it for money? Or were they just playing recorders and hoping people in Sudan would hear them?
If the former, I see nothing wrong with kids getting involved in fundraising for a cause. Now, will this money actually help Sudan? Probably not, but at least the kids are doing something charitable. I think that in and of itself is a worthy endeavor. I took a recorder class in college for fun - it was old style wooden recorders in all different sizes. Since I played flute for many, many years, recorder comes pretty naturally. |
| Nothing will save Sudan, or any of those parts of the world where our "aid" goes straight to the corrupt government. And yet people go on and on with their fundraisers. It's ridiculous and has to stop. Sadly it's out of our control. |
| can you imagine if what was happening in the african nations were happening in some european or asian country? |
Oh wait -- you mean like the former Yugoslavia, all the way back in what was it, 1994? |
well, we DID intervene there - thanks in no small part to our current VP who would make impassioned speeches where he nearly blew his plugs out urging our government to stop the madness. I'm part Croatian (through my grandfather), so I remember this very vividly. |
| So, what is a better use of their time? Or are you implying that they should come up with a better idea to save Sudan? Exactly, what is your problem? |
|
I'm holding my breath in a windowless room with no witnesses in order the save Sudan.
|
| Hey, at least it got you thinking about the Sudan. Bravo for the recorder players! |
Yeah, I'll agree with this. I also agree that playing the recorders isn't going to make any difference in the lives of the Sudanese, but at least it gets people thinking about it. |
|
It's not about saving Sudan. It's about raising citizens who will know about the world not only about IPhones 5, Wii, and all of that shit that occupies kids' minds these days.
Good for you, kids who went outside and played recorders "to help Sudan or something. " |
I agree. |
