Ok, I am going to my dr tomorrow, but I have been having some problems with dizziness for about a month. I am not PG, believe me I would know if I was! ![]() I have been very lightheaded almost every day, when I bend down and get up I get dizzy. Have not totally passed out but my knees have buckled a few times. I thought it might get better with some rest but it really has not. I have been totally exhausted because I work for a major company and went to both presidential conventions and the work leading up to it was a heavy load. I have also lost close to 20 lbs but slowly on weight watchers. Any one have any advice on what this might be? I will feel a little silly if they just tell me I am tired. Thanks |
I think you answered your own question. |
While I appreciate your response, I am not sure if I answered my own question. I think I am looking for anyone that might have some insight into anemia symptoms etc.
I have worked very hard in the past but have never felt like this before. many thanks |
I'm not sure how helpful I can be with my experience, but I was having similar symptoms. He ran a pg test first thing even though I told him also that I knew for certain I was not pg. When that came back neg, he ran blood tests and said everything looked normal. He really thought it was just from not getting enough rest - Working f/t with a baby. He said to get 8hrs a sleep/night for a week and then let him know if it doesn't get better. This was 1.5yrs ago and I have yet to get that 8hrs sleep/night for a week yet!! It did get better though when I did start getting a little more sleep.
I am getting the symptoms again, but this time I am pg (4months). I hope you get some answers at your dr appt. |
I've suffered from dizziness when standing up quickly (not from a chair, but if trying to get a book from the bottom shelf, e.g.) for as long as I can remember, and the doctor I mentioned it to said it was just a vascular problem and not something to worry about in particular.
My mother also reported being dizzy and borderline anemic in pregnancy. I'd schedule a doctor's appointment and start taking an iron supplement in the meantime. I don't think there's any downside to supplementation in normal dosages. I vaguely recall warnings of possible constipation or upset stomatch, but I haven't experienced any. |
thank you all very much. Hopefully will get some answers tomorrow. Appreciate the support. |
The one I take is Ferro-Sequels. |
There are many causes of dizziness. Medically, there are three or four types (vertigo, disequilibrium, pre-syncope, and one other). And there are a lot of causes. So it is very hard to pinpoint your problem.
But if I had to hazard a guess: If this happens mostly when you stand up, you can at least start with Orthostatic Hypotension: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthostatic_hypotension If not that, then look into other causes and start with the causes of pre-syncope. |
You could have an inner ear infection. This happened to me once and when I went to the Doc, it was an inner ear infection. |
thank you all. It happens when I bend down and also when I can just be standing or even walking along. I appreciate your all of your help. |
Anemia or vertigo? |
What about sudden drops in blood sugar? Seems like your BP drops suddenly, hence the "head-rush." Good luck with it, let us know what the doc said. |
Low blood sugar or dehydration? Are you getting enough to eat or drink? |
I am very good about drinking enough water so I don't think it is dehydration and honestly it started around the mid August so I think if it was dehydration I would be better.
I was not eating a lot while I was getting ready for the conventions and during the conventions but I have been really good about eating since I got home and should be taking in enough calories so that should not be the cause. NOrmally when I get stressed I don't eat but I was pretty good about having at least one good meal a day while I was gone and then noshing at the receptions. It is just a little concerning because it has been going on for so long. I will check in with everyone after I get back from the Dr. |
Get your iron level checked. Exhaustion (as if it wasn't enough) is exacerbated for those that are anemic.
Get your blood pressure checked. Obviously, your body is having trouble efficiently pumping blood up to your brain since you're saying you feel light-headed when standing up/faint. Are you short of breath sometimes too? I doubt the weightloss is significant (unless you were underweight or "normal" to begin with) since you seem to have done that gradually and in a healthy way - good job by the way. |
