what do all the abbreviations stand for?

Any reason why these lists never seem to conceive Of a situation where the abbreviation refers to a wife?

Dear Husband/Son/Daughter.

Actually, Dear Wife (DW) is used pretty regularly. The reason you don't see it as often is that the significant majority of the DCUM audience are heterosexual women. As one of the minority husbands here, I've used DW fairly often and I've also seen it fairly often, but you have to be on the right threads. The guys tend to gravitate more towards certain threads and fora.

Someone just posted this in the Schools and Education Forum, but it's a good one to add here:

Q. Can someone please tell me what "DL" stands for?

Been seeing more posts lately with the title prefaced with "S/O"... asked but no agreement on what it means. Didn't find an answer with some googling. Shout out, seeking opinions, spin-off, search of, significant other, etc. all mentioned as possibilities, however _none_ of those possibilities seems like the would merit the "/" and would instead just be "SO" (or "S-O" for spin-off)... spin-off or seeking opinions seems like it would at least kind of work in context, but seeking opinions would be pretty dumb as nearly half the threads on the board would need to be prefaced as such, LOL.

Curious if someone here can shed some light?

Really, you started this thread back in 2008?

Spin-Off. When one thread makes you think of a tangential or related question/topic and you start a new thread to avoid derailing the original.

This is an old one that dates back to pre-Internet. We used this on the Usenet bulletin boards on ArpaNet before the Internet really launched.

Your Mileage May Vary.

Interesting, and useful, but why S/O instead of S-O or just SO? It's not "spin/off". Also, if this is accurate then I'm seeing it misapplied about as often as correctly applied.

SO means Significant Other. So you need the slash in the middle of S/O to make sure it is understood as Spin Off and not Significant Other.

S-O would make more sense since it is actually written out that way (spin-off not spin/off)

“Fixed that for you”, used when a poster rewrites your comment to reflect their views on your statement. To be avoided.
