Why are US and Russia meeting unilaterally to resolve Russia-Ukraine conflict

Penny wise and pound foolish. Most Americans have no clue what those bases do, and how vital they are to our own national security.

I guess I should not be surprised, but it never fails to astound me that now that almost all of the people who remember the horrors of WWII are now dead, we are rapidly repeating the factors that helped caused it, e.g., appeasement of dictators invading other nations. I have more and more respect for the first George W. Bush, who was masterful in assembling an international coalitions to repel that behavior when Sadaam Hussein invaded Kuwait.

Penny wise pound foolish seems to be the fashion these day, as seen with USAID. Maybe they should withdraw the fleets from the Mediterranean and the gulf too. And shut down everything in Okinawa and the Philippines. Let China have Taiwan, and Russia have Ukraine, who cares about them. We can just defend the borders.

Are they vital to OUR national security? Or to Europe’s? Please, explain to me exactly how these bases are so vital to our national security. Quicker access to the Middle East so we can fight in more regional conflicts and wars with no winners?

Do any European countries have bases in America?

Sorry don’t have patience to scroll back to where anyone is actually on topic.

I think if US and Russia come to a peace agreement on Ukraine, Zelensky has little choice but to accept even it requires that he be exiled to one of his many estates outside of Ukraine.

Why are the US and Russia coming to agreements when Ukraine is a party to this war and the US isn’t?

This is news to me. Do you have citations to back up your statement?

Seriously, these agreements are done and pushed so that US would continue to protect Europe and spend on the military while they are spending money on free education, social welfare, etc. Americans are also going in debt to protect Europe. End it now.

It is never as simple as you simpletons make it out to be. NATO is a force multiplier for the US, we are fully integrated with them, we have a big say in how things are done, we have forward bases(and equipment) in Europe(and around the world), Europe buy US equipment and weapon systems, the European intelligence is vital to the US, Europe is a true allies, etc. Losing Turkeys and Italian airbase will leave the Israelis out on their own. Look for a major European shift away from the US’s pet Israel.

When Russia invades the Baltic state Europe will go to war. The US will lose all credibility, trade will be impacted and the US will have no say European affairs. The European will move closer to China and put their interest before the US interest. Though it does not look like Europe will abandoned the Ukraine. The US can switch side but the European will not.

All this for a basket case of a country Russia with a GDP of 7% of the US. Trump is a fool. Russia is on its way to collapsing.

Without US support Ukraine is not lasting long in this war.

Ukraine is not going to recover much territory at all. The current borders are a best case scenario. If the war continues without other countries sending troops, then Russia will conquer even more, just with their higher population.

What Soviet republics. What part don’t you get that no one wants to rejoin Putin’s USSR dream.

They are in the orbit of a large and still pretty powerful country. They don’t have a choice but to work with it. The U.S. promising them the nato dream is just irresponsible- the U.S. can’t guarantee their safety. The Ukraine is a victim of that empty promise.

Anyone who refers to this country in this manner is a Russian sympathizer at best.

Does that include Tom Cruise?

I don’t see how that justifies leaving Ukraine out of the negotiations.

Sure yeah. ANd when we eventually go to war, probbaly after a threat from Russia, we will have no allies. Great plan. Your plan on relying on help from our enemies is amazing--I bow to your wisdom

Maybe Europe will build an alliance with China then. It’s about time.

US should leave NATO. New alliance needs to happen.

Right. BEcause 80 years of relative peace, no world wars, outside of our own dumbassery (Vietnam) means the alliances need to be ditched and aren't working. Do you even hear yourself?
