Distraught about college son who’s happy about Trump

Anonymous
Op, you should be proud of your son that he could make his own choices after seeing what is going on in this country. Impression of democrats with young people is not got good and my daughter(we are a minority) is same. Democrats need to do a lot more than just blowing smoke.

He says a big reason is campus DEI and wokeness, which he feels has gone too far. Anyone else in this situation? How are you handling it? Any advice?

Same sis same. Middle school boy her. It’s the social media echo chambers. Try to clear his cookies and location services during the holidays. Also, some trips to our museums. New books etc…

PS my kids is stuck on kids and transgender discussions. Ironic because he declared himself bi in second grade. Now he thinks parents that support kids at that age are stupid. I’m like we supported you and you’ve done a 180… I hate the internet .
But seriously the internet is the problem.

However, OP’s son may be immature, rebelling; I would try to engage him in conversation, listen to him; he may still see the light.

Even if you knew the VP and how bad she is at so many of the key things needed to be POTUS? It’s so hard to lie to your kids.

Dp. But we don't think that. Many of you knowingly admit you know he is an immoral and corrupt man and yet you still voted for him.

Why do you think so many of his Generals and Republicans wanted us to vote for Harris? Probably the first time I have seen so many endorse Democrats!

And yet, it gave you no pause...

Regarding morality...

What if the the real reason Biden helped expand the prison state and lamented schools turning into a "racial jungle" was because plantation mentality appeals to him?
What if Biden's reputation of being weak on the border while paradoxically heavy on deportation comes from the fact that he's very ok with exploiting Latinos.
What if Biden's support for Israel really is support for a Palestinian genocide, and that's why he's doing it?
What if it's no coincidence that Biden is fervent supports historically Nazi/fascist groups?
What if the reason Biden is willing to put humanity at risk of global nuclear annihilation is due to an addiction to McCarthyist dogma?
What if Biden throws billions upon billions of American dollars at another country's pension accounts mostly because he doesn't particularly think much of the poor - or even the middle class, for that matter?
What if Biden's career-long indulgence in warmongering owes to a fundamental sense of xenophobia?
What if the main driver behind the Democrats' equity in academic admissions policies really is anti-Asian sentiment?
What if the predatory touching of underage girls that Biden has substantively been accused of doing stems from a lack of respect for women?

I'm just not sure that confidently calling out Trump's morality is quite the position of strength people would like it to be, since guys like this often end up being the beneficiaries.

No, pp. It’s not possible. Because Democrats are altruistic and wholly good. They care about people, and want things to be nice for everyone. They are smarter than everyone else. They wear the white hats.

The other half of the country is pure, unadulterated evil. They hate women and minorities and want everything to be awful for everyone except for white men. They are all very stupid. They wear the black hats.

There can’t POSSIBLY be more nuance than that. That is why OP and so many others here are “distraught.”

Talk to your son. Continue to have conversations about your values and what you observe your government doing and not doing. Ask him questions, listen to his answers, share your views.

That’s all you can do.

I can’t tell if you’re trolling us, or if you really think it’s okay for 7 year olds to declare themselves to be bi.

97% of Americans are decent, well meaning people. You people have, by design, been divided by well crafted messaging from the awful two major parties you associate with. This is making otherwise intelligent people sounds really, really gullible and simple-minded.

Just stop it. Your fellow citizens aren't the problem. The problem lies within the toxic culture of your political parties and your blind love affairs with awful politicians like Trump and Biden. Wake the eff up people.

That's not very progressive. You should be donating your money to the treasury so it can be given to those less well off, including around the globe.

Senator Byrd was meeting with a farmer. Farmer said he has eight kids.
"Are they all good Democrats?"
"Well, seven of them are."
"What about the 8th?"
"Well my youngest boy, Zeke, he got to reading...

He is not willing to do this. But he is not in control of his own foreign policy.

That could end up turning all of them Republican.

Our vocally progressive neighbor who is mad at us because we would not put a Harris Walz sign in our yard is running around with glee telling everyone that her white son is bring his black girlfriend home for "the holidays." The eyes are rolling down the street over her "joy."
