School district for conservative family (VA)

“Leftist ideology”? You people are nuts.

+1 for TCS Fairfax
Biblical Christian teachings, pro-life student org that’s fairly active, strong sports program, well rounded theater and music options. Many AP classes offered.

Well I didn’t want to offend or misrepresent “liberals” because this is decidedly not that. Labeling everything one doesn’t agree with as “hate” or “nuts” is decidedly illiberal leftist rhetoric.
And Nova schools are excel at it.

Huh?

Military is hardly synonymous with “conservative.” Certainly not the brand of conservative OP is describing.

The military is a pretty woke place and radical political displays such as March for Life will be out-of-step with mainstream values of people living in a military community.

Oh look, it's "huh" lady. You know that makes you sound really stupid, right?

I work at the Pentagon. Most of the people I work with are fairly conservative (not MAGA conservative, but rather traditionally conservative). If OP wants true family values, I agree with these communities. If she wants MAGA, then she needs to move to McLean.

Enlisteds are conservative. Especially Air Force, ugh. Officers generally aren't because of their level of education. Being around the military is no guarantee that you'll be in the presence of forced birthers and homophobes like OP wants.

Hate to break it to you, but there are many educated military officers who are also conservative. They probably won’t discuss their views in front of you, but they’re there.

Your friend needs to find that piece right away because it isn't easy around here for kids from "conservative" families. (I don't like that label though.) The comments I have read here demonstrate that.

Ah, yea, be sure to partake in the collective delusion that Jesus is magic and a zombie to boot.

How incredibly respectful and tolerant of you.

No. There are plenty of things I don’t agree with that aren’t nuts.

People complaining about “leftist ideology” on a mommy website are nuts.

(Asking for a friend)

They all would be fine. Not sure what being conservative has to do with anything. It’s school.

I mean, if you need religion in your school or something go private. But if you can’t afford that, the publics are all six of one, half dozen of the other. There’s no politics in them or anything so your conservative leanings are a red herring.

This post absolutely has to have been written by a leftist.
There is no other explanation for the complete fog about the STRONG political leanings of the nova public school systems. Of course, to a family who is in total lockstep with every single piece of leftist ideaology that is reinforced in northern Virginia public schools, it makes sense that they wouldnt even see how any of that could be a problem. But let’s just say if the shoe were on the other foot, PP would notice.

OP—if your family is Christian, try a private Christian School. Since you’re going to be in Fairfax, try Trinity Christian School. It’s a decent sized K-12 community and pretty conservative.
If not particularly religious but still want conservative then Catholic is your best bet but even many of those in this area are much less conservative than you might think

Our k-8 catholic has families across the political spectrum. Trumpers, conservative never-Trumpers, moderates, liberals. We all get along fine. It reminds me the public schools of my childhood, where politics are not front and center and everyone is respected.

Anonymous wrote:OP here. Just to clarify:

1) They cannot afford private

2) They are not looking for half of the board to be conservative. Just mainly the political diversity, so that the kid can fit in and family values are respected. We are in MoCo and I did not recommend our school district, as even I feel like too much is forced on the kids and religion does not get a lot of respect.

What does “family values be respected” mean to them, exactly? In these parts, we respect that families look like many different things. If their view is anything other than that, I.e. if they think “family values” means a married man and woman of the same race with 2.4 kids and they are offended by anything else, including single parents, gay parents, divorced parents, mixed race couples, mixed race gay couples, kids raised by grandparents, kids raised by foster parents, kids living in homeless shelters … well, they probably won’t fit in anywhere in these parts.

No public school is going to “respect” their religion, whatever it is. There will be no deference to it. We don’t do that here in the United States of America.

Not sure what you mean by things “forced” on children. What are you talking about? Addition? Times tables? Instrumental music starting in 4th grade? Fingerprinting? What?

You aren’t making much sense.

This is OP. Family values like going to church or to march for life are important to their teen. They are looking for school where kids won’t think of him as a weirdo. Please don’t get worked up.

I have a teen at MCPS can tell you that someone like that would not fit in and would face a lot of hostility at our school.

Those aren't "family values", they're just priorities/interests. Those are that particular family's priorities and interests.

The kid has just been brainwashed by his parents “family values”. What right does a male teen have at a right to life March? MMaybe if he’s enrolled at a regular public school, then he will see that you don’t have to just blindly follow whatever your church and parents tell you is right. There are nuances. Took me a while, but I finally wised up.

Ummm…because you don’t need to be female to hold and support the opinion that murdering an innocent life is not a moral or just solution to any circumstance?…

Thanks so much for those with names and suggestions - it’s so helpful!

And again, as I said before, they are not looking for conservative school. Just trying to avoid flaming political vibe

Loudoun County might be the best bet. Honestly, Fairfax County for some reason has been painted by conservative media as being "flaming" left, but it really isn't. I live here. I'm squarely in the middle politically. Our neighbors are very conservative and they are still here. Maybe they feel like they've had to compromise their values to exist here, but I don't get that vibe at all. The schools are huge, so their kids will find their people because there are just so many different kinds of people. Sure you're going to run into someone who is wacko out in left field every now and then, but the goal isn't to live in a place where you will never have to tolerate someone different than you, right? I'm not sure I have any suggestions for a family who isn't willing to tolerate any diversity of thought.

I agree with this PP, and I think the reason for the media characterizing FFX county this way is the number of vocal liberal activists with no kids that make up the current school board. The things they choose to focus time and attention and resources on do not reflect the overall slight-left of center leanings of most parents in FFX COUNTY. Most parents just want strong schools for a good education for their kids.

Not for any circumstance, really? So I guess you think I should have just been allowed to die when I had an ectopic, leaving my firstborn motherless?
OP, look in western Loudoun if you want to stay in public schools. West of Leesburg.

Only true for certain subcultures - enlisted and general officers.

Maybe it would be good for this kid to be exposed to other points of view.

A kid wearing a maga shirt is not going to have an easy time at any fcps school

Yup. Most people around here have a hard time with traitors.

Get a life.

We had the same experience at our non-Catholic but religious private. However, our local elementary was literally taken over by evangelical Trumpers, who drove out a lot of parents and even a principal.

Fauquier has great schools and depending where in Fairfax they will commute to it can be under an hour drive. People are accepted for who they are out here. Non of the terrible political hate towards others that think differently out here. It is easier to get into state universities from outside of the Arlington Fairfax area too!
