And like it or not Leigh Ann’s character is half the movie so she does have the right to talk about that, just like he does. They are hundred millionaires and did not need to take on a high school kid with nfl potential to make money.

He burned through his NFL money and his wife is pressuring him to get paid somehow I bet. He should have a trust fund from the tuohys if they really feel like he is their son as they claim, but he cut them off years ago ironically right when he married his wife. This is a family and likely DIL issue that everyone wants to turn into a larger social issue.

Any factual evidence that the Tuohy's spent so much money on Oher, or that Oher burned through his funds? Or, are you just going to spout stereotypes in order to paint your false narrative that the Tuohy's are saviors?

NP. This story has been out there for a long, long time. If Oher is not mentally incompetent, which he claims he is not, he’s had plenty of time to figure out wrong doing.

This is a witch hunt against a white, southern family. An opportunity to perpetuate the “white savior” narrative. It’s disgusting. It’s alienating. It does nothing to further race relations.

The only people perpetuating the "white savior" narrative are the Tuohy's and people defending them. If the Tuohy's did not want negative backlash, perhaps they should have given Oher the same royalties that their own children allegedly received.

There is by no means a "witch hunt", when the Tuohy's have demonstrated what famewhores they are.

Not true.

The book and the movie are very different. John Lee Hancock wrote the script and directed the movie. He was the one that took extreme liberties with the story and the Tuohys had final approval on Michael’s behalf as his conservators.

The Tuohys become Oher’s legal guardian (ie conservator) in the movie. We don’t know if they ever approved any financial decisions on his behalf. It could be that the conservatorship was established to satisfy the NCAA but never had enforced by the Tuohys.

Also this man is now 37. He spent more than a decade in the NFL. He earned $35m. Have they been involved in his finances all this time? Did they get a cut? Doesn’t make sense.

I think it is simple. He wants to embarrass them. He thinks if I were actually a son as you said, where is my cut of the family money. It so easily proveable that they didn’t make money off the movie. He was getting small checks. His lawyers know how this business works. This is about something else.

I think he blew through his NFL earnings, has lingering injuries, and is is looking for money.

Are we all forgetting that the book and movie came out years after they did these things for the guy. So what was their motivation again?

Maybe he has been asking to have the conservatorship ended for a while and they have been dragging their heels. He had a book come out this week, so, maybe the lawsuit was timed with that.

More likely the new laws on NIL.

I want to know what they have don’t for Oher over last 10 years as his conservators. The man is 37. Why now? My guess is they have done nothing for a long time. Or have been assisting him per his own request.

This is not the Brittany Spears situation. He is a 37 year old man with a wife and kids.

I worry he spent it all and he is looking at this as a way to get some money.

This. I guess any relationship he had with them is now gone. How sad if this is a big nothing burger.

Clearly he has spent all his money.

You might want to Google Oher's net worth before claiming he's broke, unless of course, you like looking like a moron.

As of 2023, Oher's net worth stands as a subject of debate, with estimates oscillating between $16 million and $25 million. A prevailing consensus positions his worth around $22 million, encompassing his NFL contracts, personal holdings, and potential earnings linked to the movie and other endeavors.7 hours ago

A source close to the film tells PEOPLE the Tuohys have received approximately $700,000 total in rights, payments and profits, which was intended to be divided between the family members — Sean, Leigh Anne, their two biological children and Oher.6 hours ago

Tuohy Family Has Not Received Millions from The Blind Side: Source

I suspect his lawyers will be the big winners. If his networth is between 16 and 25 million and the tuohys received 700,000 (divided by 5 including him) this looks like something his lawyers were pushing for billable hours.

The book’s writer who had same sharing agreement confirmed that no money made any money off this movie.

I know he was childhood friends with thuoy but this guy is famous and isn’t going to lie.

The judge who approved Michael Oher’s conservatorship told Bloomberg Law no case papers ever crossed his desk after the initial approval. Records show the system wasn’t watching at all for nearly two decades.

I may have missed this point in the thread somewhere, but let’s not forget that the movie was produced, written and directed without his input.

He was a naive young man who was raised by the Tuohy’s to be dependent on them for their proven business savvy and decision making. He trusted them.

Whatever the yet to surface facts eventually reveal, the facts that are present now show that Oher was seriously misled by them via the conservatorship.

The Tuohys have already admitted that they weren’t keeping with filing annual financial documents with the court as mandated as conservators. They’re in trouble and should settle.

If all they did was not file then no they are not really in trouble. They should have or should have terminated it but it is really no harm no foul in a case like this. It would surprise me if there were any transaction or money since the movie. His nfl money did not go there. Most likely this was just dormant.

Now if there were transactions and they did not file then yes there would be issues.

But what this sounds like is that this was set up at the time he went to ole miss to get around some ncaa rules on financial support. It was then never used. It would surprise me a bit if there even was a bank account over the last 15 years.

I think it's something like this. The conservatorship was done for convenience and then not used. It should have been terminated, but maybe the Tuohys didn't want the publicity? Which isn't right. They should have worked something out.

I mean that is not known. Sean says he talked to him about it. But when you say conservatorship you say that like it was something. Like Brittney. But here I think what you will find is that it was approved by the judge sent to the ncaa and nothing was ever done with it. No money went to or from it. It was just a device to side step ncaa rules.

I guess Oher would have been much better off just depending on his biological parents. They seemed like two great role models (a crack addict and a felon).
Anonymous
Clearly he has spent all his money.

What would make you think that? I think a desire to promote his new book plus lingering bad feelings are likely the cause. It seems like he has been estranged from them for a while.

I think they did not end it because its need was over and there was nothing to it. No assets. No bank accounts. No nothing. Why cancel nothing. My dad passed 30 years ago and I never closed the estate. Lawyer want too much. I told siblings and distributed assets but still open. I left myself open but not worth money to close and do accounting as required.
