For my husband. 5th wedding anniversary = wood. Is a cool wood pen totally lame?
I think it is sorta lame (sorry), but I don't have any better ideas. Anyone?
Nothing says you have to follow those random guides for wht to give on eah anniversary. It isn't like your marriage will fail if you don't give wood on the 5th. Now, if you don't TAKE wood on your anniversary, THEN you you have problems. I am a DH. Trust me when I say, your DH won't care if he gets wood or not. Give him a gift that shows you know his wants and dreams. Wood ain't it, that much I can assure you
I would just do whatever you want. If you feel strongly about doing wood, I would get a nice wooden picture frame and put a picture of you/kids in it.

Maybe try Appalachian Spring (one in Union Station, one on Rockville Pike, another in Reston). They have beautiful wooden boxes and other handmade wooden items (frames too). If he really likes nice pens and that is why you were thinking of a wooden pen, then maybe get him a really nice wood pen box with the pen in it:
