http://www.redfin.com/DC/Washington/600-Water-St-SW-20024/unit-0/home/40425327 This seems pretty nice when compared to a basement condo in Columbia Heights or shabby rowhouse in Petworth. |
| With DH after kids have left the nest, I would love it, totally. And since I'm 47 and DH is 57 and our 4 kids range from ages 7-12, by totally I mean never because I'll be too old and my children will probably never leave...So, yeah, no. |
| I would if it was an awesome luxury one. Like this http://luxuryhouseboats.com.au/gallery.html |
Nice DH would be all over it, since he had mentioned all the time how he would love for us to live on a houseboat. I am not so thrilled at the idea of a shaky environments, e.g. being on the water, but it is certainly appealing to always have water views and to be able to take your home with you on an exciting journey and relocate to another city altogether without changing the inside of your home! It does look spacious, more spacious than some rowhomes I've seen and it has a bigger closet than a master bedroom in my suburban house! It is definitely perfect for the retired couple or a young working couple without kids. It will be tough to live there with kids because they need access to other child friendly amenities and especially to other kids their age, which might be tough to find in the marina setting. Great choice for the vacation property though if you can afford the price plus the expensive marina fees.

| I think I would first want to rent a houseboat for a month or so to see how I like living there before making a purchase. It is hard to tell otherwise. |
| No not interested! |
| Yes! As soon as kids are old enough for it to be safe. That will be awhile! |
| Live on one? Sure. Own one -- uh, no thanks. |
| No. |

That's my Win-a-million-dollars dream:
Buy a houseboat and live somewhere like Key West or in the Gulf. |
Ugh until a hurricane then ur screwed! |
Most Luxury houseboats aren't really very mobile as they're hooked up to electric and sewer lines, and have no propulsion system. They need a another boat to haul them if you do need to move them. My sister and family live on one (in Seattle) and several of their neighbors have kids. The kids have plenty of nearby places to play, and they all learned to swim at a very early age. It wouldn't be my choice, but it can be very family friendly. |
| Pp here-just looked at the pictures more closely and realized that one really is a mobile boat. Isn't it really just a yacht at that point? |
| Too bad they are about to rennovate the marina so all of the houseboats will have to relocate. I guess this owner is smart enough to get out now. |

Nope!
My brother died when the one he was living on caught fire. The thing went up in flames so fast that he never had a chance. |
