Is this satire? Have you seen the surveys they send out? They don’t give an option to vote to remove any religious holidays or federal holidays. |
| Why do people need to complain so much? Just put your kid in a camp for the day. |
+ 1. Because some people want their vouchers for private so they'll complain about everything and anything in public. |
It couldn’t possibly be that camps are more expensive and in limited supply? |
+1 several years ago they did a survey that showed a clear preference for one calendar and then disregarded it |
when you have older kids you'll appreciate the days off |
I think my YHS student would benefit enormously from having to go to school five days in a row. |
People say this often enough that I think it's time to consider separate calendars for Elementary and secondary schools |
My friends kids get out before Labor Day and only begin 2 weeks before we do! Same amount of school days! Another friend has sort of a year round arrangement. Their summer is two weeks shorter than ours but they have two weeks in Spring and two weeks in October. (And two weeks in Dec/Jan) |
When APS asked parents for input and opinions on the start date they left out that kids would be in school until June 19th every year with their suggestions. It’s way longer than anyone in the nation. |
Is your kid in 9th or 10th? has your kid applied to college yet? visited colleges? |
fine with me signed, parent with older kids |
It does feel performative and completely over the top on many issues. They are forgetting that only a few years ago we didn’t have all these religious holidays in the calendar… and now any discussion, like “it’s not working very well” is met with scandalous blanket rejection and accusations . So we were not inclusive in 2021? |
Correct, APS is doing better now. Why go backwards? |
It’s not “better” if you ask the Eastern Orthodox, of which we actually have a sizable population here, and for whom there are zero religious holidays. Any time you’re picking winners, you’re picking losers. |
